And yet some morons on Twitter are trying to justify the contract because he would be a UFA, is good on face-offs and is decent defensively.

Kyle Turris is making 3.5M per year for pete's sake.

Over-paying guys who produce that little means playing them over younger players who will likely produce more and have a far less significant cap impact. Of course, doing things like Yzerman has done in Tampa don't seem to even be an option for the mired in 2000 philosophy Armstrong. You know, the defensive veterans win championships, not guys actually scoring goals.

Any takers on Barbashev being benched when the playoffs starts and Sobotka takes his place on the top line - even after we saw the kind of chances the top line was creating in the last game? We'll see what happens vs the 'Canes.

Yeah, I was wrong. Wasn't the first time, won't be the last.

Consider - Sobotka is going to be making more per season than Berglund and Sobotka's total career goals is 29. Horribly over-paid.

I'm not condoning the signing...but Sobotka isn't being paid for his goal scoring prowess or lack thereof. That's not why he was brought back.

If he produces in the playoffs, great, and I will shut up. It's just 3.5M per for a 3rd line C??

At practice today, Lehtera is the 3rd line C, not Sobotka. If he was brought in to be a faceoff and defensive presence guy, why is Lehtera still practicing there?? So it's 3.5M for a 3rd line LW?? That's even worse. Keeping Lehtera at C is a mistake. I'd rather see Sanford on that LW with Boats at C.

I could be completely wrong about his impact and it won't be the first time being wrong about something.

Stastny has a broken foot and is out maybe until the 3rd round, or so the rumors go.

That's why Sobotka was brought back. Sobotka had leverage and likely parlayed that into a 3 year deal.

It's not that it's 3 years... it's the 3.5M.

This is the equivalent of Sobotka winning arbitration. He basically got the contract he wanted in the first place - and the Blues, well Armstrong, caved and gave it to him.

And if this is about Stastny, why isn't Sobotka playing C in practice??

Guys, Boat scored at an 82 goal pace this year. $3.5m is a bargain!

On a serious note, this HAS to spell the end of Jori. Right?

One of the beat writers (Lou Korac) has tweeted out he saw Stastny walking around the locker room Sunday with no limp or cast. And didn't Brodziak come back from a busted foot after 3 weeks this year? I know there are varying severities of breaks, but if it was too severe wouldn't he have had a surgery? And wouldn't the team provide that information to the media?

I don't know that Armstrong extended Sobotka because of Stastny's injury. I mean it's not like they were playing like crap without either guy. He got him signed because he loves him and, yeah, maybe he has a plan for Lehtera. He better have a plan anyway.

Hope he tears it up but, as always, expectations are basement level. I believe they can handle Minnesota, though

while the money is FUBAR, at least the dude plays with an edge... something this team is sorely lacking :cup:

-I hope this is a prelude to buying out Lehtera. I had hopes that he would bounce back. He didn't though and now he's occupying cap space and roster space that could be used elsewhere.

-I don't know if this is in response to Stastny or not. I see the logic, but I hope that Stastny is about to return.

-The contract seems kinda bad. But, I don't think it's super awful, because it's hard to sink a team's chances with $3.5 mil in cap space. What's his ideal AAV? $2.5 mil? If we overspent on him by $1 mil, that's not great, but we can field a competitive team regardless. When he left, I wasn't too upset because I think he's a 3rd liner, which isn't the end of the world to have lost. He's fun to watch though, so I'm looking forward to that aspect too.

There is still a chance for Lehtera to bounce back in the playoffs.

(Someone had to say it).

:woohoo: :goblues:

Lehtera is the kind of guy who ends up scoring 20 goals in the playoffs including the Cup clincher and we all scratch our heads wondering how that happened.
