I got home from work in time to catch 9 minutes of this game but it’s been as great as watching a full 60. What an effort!

The Blues dominated the first 2 periods, and The Oilers just gave up. The Blues were hustling and working harder than The Oilers from the start. They played a very structured game early, that allowed them to control the game (forechecking, backchecking, controlling the puck, etc.). Good to see. Should have been 8-1.

Refreshing hearing the NBC announcers actually praising the Blues and not mentioning the Blackhawks for once.

Pierre couldn't stop gushing about Parayko's play. He was a beast tonight setting up rushes off of turnovers he forced.

They also got it right when pointing out if the Blues were to get a 4th goal in the 2nd, this thing was going to be very ugly for the Oilers - and it was.

And, yeah, the 2 late Oilers goals were basically the Blues letting up a little bit defensively.

I'm not even upset about giving up 3. The game was obviously in the bag, why exert unnecessary energy at the end? Edmonton was barely trying. Heck, I could have scored Stastny's goal and I'm a short, rotund, un-athletic, middle aged Italian dude.

Surprising to see Tarasenko drop the gloves. "Good scrap kid. Don't do it again."

And... Benning?! Back in the day that'd get your head beat in from the likes of Ryan Reaves, et al. About the only ones on the Oilers that Tank "should" be fighting is McDavid or Draisaitl if we're following The Code.

Benning isn't that big. Tarasenko wasn't at any real risk in that fight and why not get a Gordie Howe hat trick in a game which the Blues were already dominating? He already had the goal and assist. :)

Schwartz (30) - Schenn (30) - Tarasenko (26)

Only line in the league with 3 players having 25 or more points each. (86 total) And who would've had Tarasenko as the fewest points of those three to start the season?

Haven't surpassed Kucherov (33) - Namesnikov (20) - Stamkos (35) total points (88 total), yet, and probably won't since the Lighting have played 2 fewer games.

Last note - what is kind of scary - the Oilers look like an expansion team, even with all those high 1st round draft picks, while Vegas looks and plays like an experienced team, even with their 5th goalie (or something like that).

The Oilers drafted incompetently for years. It doesn't take a genius to realize that you need something which resembles NHL caliber defensemen. I know hindsight is 20/20 and all that but they could have passed on Paajarvi, picking Ryan Ellis instead and could have also passed on Yakupov and taken Matt Dumba instead. Instant upgrade. I get that it's very easy to do mock re-drafts years later, but they didn't even bother addressing defense except the year they took Nurse and it's burned them repeatedly.

and yet the talk from the Canadian based hockey shows is about trading Nugent-Hopkins for another forward. I seriously don't get it. Peter Chiarelli hasn't been there that long, but it's like he isn't even making an effort to fix it. They drafted a forward with their first pick again in the last draft (Kailer Yamamoto).
