ST. LOUIS -- The early-season success of the St. Louis Blues can be attributed to many factors, but the decision to put Vladimir Tarasenko, Brayden Schenn and Jaden Schwartz on the same line is tops on that list.

The line, which was put together in late October, has quickly developed into one of the best in the NHL.

The Nashville Predators hope to at least slow down that line when they visit the Blues on Friday night.

All three players rank among the top offensive players in the league. Since they first took the ice together as a line on Oct. 25, they have combined for 18 goals and 54 points in 13 games.

Nobody has been hotter than Schenn, working as the center between the two wings. He has scored seven goals and added 12 assists in a career-high eight-game point streak. Schenn and Tarasenko both had two goals and two assists in an 8-3 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday night, while Schwartz had a goal and three assists.

According to ESPN, Schenn is the first player in the NHL to accumulate 19 points in an eight-game stretch in one season since Sidney Crosby had 20 in that span in 2013. It's the most by a Blues' player in eight games since Pavol Demitra in 2000.

"We're working for one another, we kind of know where each other is right now and playing a give-and-go type of game and able to create opportunities from it," Schenn said.

Schenn and Schwartz both said it is premature for talk that is beginning to build about the trio perhaps being the best forward line in the league.

"We're only 22 games in," Schenn said. "We've got 82 and the playoffs to try to prove that. You can't be satisfied because you've had a good start to the year. You've got to keep building as a line and continue to improve.

"You want to come to the rink each day and get better and improve; don't sit back because you're having success right now. You want to keep pushing and keep your foot on the gas."

Added Schwartz, "We're having a lot of fun but I think we are doing a good job of hitting the reset button every game and getting ready. You've got to respect every team in this league, they're all good."

The game against the Predators is the first for the Blues against a Central Division opponent since Oct. 19. It will be their first of the season against the Predators, who knocked them out of the playoffs last season.

The Predators have been hot as well, winning eight of their last nine games, including a 3-2 shootout win at home over Montreal on Wednesday night. Their 8-2-0 record in November is the best in the league this month.

"We haven't played our best hockey yet," defenseman P.K. Subban told NHL.com. "That's the exciting thing about our team. We still have guys who are coming back into the fold who have been out for a while and trying to get their feet under them. But our leadership group has done a really good job of setting the tone and making sure that we do all the right things to be competitive every night."

Blues coach Mike Yeo knows what to expect on Friday night.
"We've got a bulls-eye right now and teams are chasing us," Yeo said. "We're not getting team's B games. We know we are going to face their best. ... It's going to be intense, fast hockey and fun to watch."

This is the type of game which the Blues sometimes lose. Relatively easy blow out win in last game. Plenty of rest.

Opponent struggled to win their last game against a clearly lesser team and wants to prove something against the Western Conference's best record.

Counter point - Blues want to put the Predators back in their place after the playoffs last season.

Should be a good one.

My first season as a Blues fan was 92-93 so I missed Hull and Oates, but I certainly didn't miss Hull-Janney-Shanahan.

Tarasenko, Schenn and Schwartz have that kind of a feel to them. Every time they're on the ice, I expect a goal. It's why I found the game against the Flyers to be odd, this team has the requisite talent to never get shut out no matter how well the opposing goalie plays. I expect another big effort tonight.

Blues 5 (Schenn, Schwartz, Parayko, Steen, Pietrangelo)
Predators 2

Also, I see Blais was recalled yesterday. Playing tonight?

The Blais recall is protection from injury. Berglund, Sanford, Fabbri on IR.

There aren't any forwards available in case of injury. The only "extra" players are between Gunnarson, Bortuzzo, Prosser.

So the recall is in case a forward gets hurt. Back-to-backs vs divisional opponents = hedging their bets ahead of time. Have him here, just in case, instead of waiting on travel to get him here if something happens.

I would prefer to see Blais play, especially on the 2nd PP unit, but not really expecting to see that happen.

Have a feeling there will be a Blais-Kyrou-Thompson line next season... add that to the current mix, just dropping the 4th line... ooomph!

Blais-Kyrou-Thompson is eventually going to be a helluva line.

I doubt the Blues re-sign Stastny when that time comes, unless he takes a HUGE discount.

So, going forward after this season...

Schwartz-Schenn-Tarasenko
Blais-Kyrou-Thompson
Sobotka-Berglund-Steen
Then any combination of Paajarvi-Jaskin-Thomas-Sundqvist plus whomever else winds up being available. Yes, the three forwards I see being gone are Brodziak, Upshall, and Stastny. Not knocking how good Brodziak and Upshall are as 4th liner and especially on the PK, but... better offensive output is possible from guys who have killed penalties as they've moved up in their careers - Thomas, Blais, Kyrou, Thompson.

Robert Thomas is probably going to wind up skipping the AHL, like Kyrou will (outside of last year's PTO for the playoffs).

And Tanner Kaspick - who will likely become one of the 4th line guys. He's currently Captain (like Kyrou and Thomas) for the WHL Brandon Wheat Kings and was one of the "All-Stars" who played in the CHL vs Russia series (as Thomas and Kyrou also did), but he isn't as offensively gifted. All 3 of them play in every situation for their respective teams.

And Toropchenko - yes, he's -13, but look at that entire Guelph Storm team. They are awful. Curious how he would be doing on a better team. While Robert Thomas is "the man" for a sub-par London Knights team, he's already been in the OHL for a year. Toropchenko has to adjust to the North American game still.

I want a convincing win by The Blues over The Preds for my birthday gift! The Blues are already down 1-0, but are now on The Power Play. Let's even it up!

Good drive by Upshall and Brodziak, but a poor 1st overall. The Blues kept letting The Preds bring the play to them. The lost ALL the races to the puck, EVEN when they were a lot closer. They'd better get angry and come out on fire in The 2nd.

The Blues should have knocked in one of those rebounds. At least they're getting in front of the net now.

At least they finally made Rinne do a little work!

Steen should have buried that one!

It took a tackle of a driving Jaskin to get the refs to call "holding". Let's even this game up on this PP!

The Blues came half-way to life in The 2nd after a dead first. They'll have to come all the way back in The 3rd, and need to continue crashing the net and bang some rebounds in. Rinne has been square all game, and they hardly made him move.
