... according to USA Today's quarterly awards review. :okman: :goblues: :plusplus:

USA Today wrote:
Norris Trophy (Defenseman)

Allen: Alex Pietrangelo, St. Louis Blues: He has played a major role in the Blues’ 15-5-1 start. Pietrangelo is playing 26:12 per game, and he’s tied for second among defensemen in shots on goal (69). Only 16 defensemen are playing 25 or more minutes, and he leads them all in plus-minus (+9). Runner-up: Victor Hedman (Lightning)

Hascup: Pietrangelo: He’s tied for first among defensemen in points (19); he’s a positive possession player and has a 64% goals-for percentage (16 goals for, nine against at even strength). Runner-up: Erik Karlsson (Ottawa Senators)

Love him getting the main stream media recognition. He's been lights out so far.

Got the same love from NHL Now and NHL Tonight They called him the hands down front-runner for the Norris. You know how they normally mention 2 or 3 players. Not this time. It was only Pietrangelo. When discussing other things (Calder, best surprise player) they all mentioned multiple players.

Leading the league in goals by defenseman.
Top 10 in assists by defenseman (currently 10th)
Leading the Blues in 5-on-5 minutes played.
Leading the Blues in PK minutes played.
2nd on the Blues (only 10 seconds behind Tarasenko) in PP time.

In other words, he plays all the time at every key time and is doing so exceedingly well.

The Sportsnet Radio guys at noon were singing Pietrangelo's praises for the Norris today, also. Doug MacLean tried to bring up Klingberg from Dallas, because he is up there in points among defenseman, but the other two dudes completely shut him down saying the Norris is about more than points. He didn't even argue. It was like he was the designated devil's advocate and had to pick someone else to talk about.
