ST. LOUIS -- The St. Louis Blues expect one of their injured forwards to return to the lineup for Wednesday night's game against the Anaheim Ducks, who wish they could be so lucky.

Patrik Berglund has missed the first two months of the Blues' season as he recovers from offseason shoulder surgery, but has been a full participant in recent practices and coach Mike Yeo indicated Tuesday that Berglund is ready to play.

"We feel pretty confident that he's ready to go," Yeo said. "We'll make the decision tomorrow (after the morning skate). ... He adds a lot to our group and obviously you add a quality player like that, it makes your group stronger."

If he does return, Berglund -- who scored a career-high 23 goals last season -- will center the Blues' third line between Dmitrij Jaskin and rookie Sammy Blais.

While the Blues have built one of the best records in the NHL despite not having defenseman Jay Bouwmeester (who played for the first time last week), Berglund and forward Robby Fabbri, out for the year following knee surgery, they have not been as ravaged by injuries as the Ducks.

The Ducks were missing five of their projected top nine forwards in a 7-3 loss at Chicago on Monday night, and none are apparently close to returning. The latest player to leave the Ducks' lineup was Rickard Rakell, their leading scorer, who is out with an upper-body injury and is not on Anaheim's current road trip.

Rakell joined Ondrej Kase, Jade Boll, Ryan Getzlaf, Ryan Kesler and Patrick Eaves on the sidelines for the Ducks, who have gone 0-3-1 in their last four games.

"It's getting a little ridiculous," Corey Perry told the Orange County Register. "On off days, you laugh. What else can you do? You can't sit there and sulk and complain about it.

"It's the way we're being dealt right now. It's unfortunate. At the same time, there's a lot of guys in here getting opportunities to play and show what they can do. Playing big roles, more minutes, whatever that may be. Hopefully that helps us in the long run."

The latest injury came just as the Ducks were heading out on a key six-game trip. St. Louis will be the third stop, with games remaining in Columbus, Nashville and Las Vegas.

"You can only coach and work with the players you have available," Ducks coach Randy Carlyle told NHL.com. "Some nights it's more players than you'd expect aren't available, but we have to move on. We have to stay with the pack; just finding ways to get points. That's not going to change when we get everybody back."

The players who are in the lineup have a good attitude about the challenge of trying to overcome all of the injuries.

"Everyone knows before the season starts that it's a very long, grueling season and there are a lot of ups and downs," defenseman Kevin Bieksa told NHL.com. "If you have the mentality that the show goes on, you keep an even keel and don't get too high or too low.

You just wake up every day and enjoy being in the NHL. Push forward with whoever we have in the lineup."

No idea why this is starting an hour later than normal for a home game. Someone in STL may have a better idea why.

A generally favorable schedule for the next few games, let's take advantage of it. I never thought I'd say it, but it's nice to have Berglund back.

Wow. No Rakell, no Getzlaf, no Kesler, no Eaves.

Sounds familiar...

Blais-Berglund-Jaskin

Sounds like a good line combo to me.

This feels like a trap game. Blues been off for a few days, playing at home against a battered opponent, heavily favored by Vegas... ugh.

I'm going Blues heavy in DFS tonight so I need them to roll as expected.

Blues 4
Ducks 1

Very happy with the top 3 lines as is. It would be better if Fabbri wasn’t hurt but hey, three capable offensive lines. Nice change.

Vermette scores. Boo! Exactly! The goal was a direct result of slow reacting and lifeless legs, losing 4 consecutive D-Zone puck races (ALL of which their player was closer to the puck), tiring out their skaters, and allowing Ducks' skaters free access to the crease area.

Either super save by Gibson, or that Tarasenko bullet hit the crossbar on that Tank/Schwartz 2 on 1. At least The Blues now go on The Power Play.

The Blues had 3 players close to the need when those last 3 shots were taken. So, The Power Play is improving a little.

Another poor 1st Period for The Blues after a long rest. The Ducks were skating hard after having been embarrassed being slaughtered by The Hawks in their last game. The Blues better come out hungry and skating hard in The 2nd.

Not at all what I expected. And now they got lucky on two flagrant trips that weren't called. The Blues are really out of synch. And they just took an interference call. Berglund on a late hit. His timing is off in his first game back.

This game is typical of almost all The Blues' losses this season, that The Blues have no energy, and are losing EVERY race to the puck.

This game is very frustrating. But an 82 game season is long, and no team can play hard every game. I just don't like to see them self destruct, especially at home. They are down 3-0 in a game they could be ahead 4-3.

Brodziak is on fire!!! 2-goal game! Skate right in on goal and pops it by Gibson!! Blues behind by 1!!! At least the box score will not look so horrible. :woohoo:

While the Blues effort wasn't the best, the inconsistent officiating was very annoying.

So I'm going to go ahead and stop commenting in threads, pre-game, about things like should-wins or "how can a team this talented get shutout?" because every time I've done something like that, they've either gotten shutout or otherwise lost anyway.

Too much rest... is the simple answer, IMO.
