Russia vs. Czech Rep. Czechs lead 3-2. Klim Kostin looking good so far. He made a great power drive on goal, barely missing. He made a couple of nifty passes, one of which assisted on one of Russia's goals.

Czechs hang on to win 5-4! Kostin played a chippy game getting his stick up a few times. He made a couple nice drives, and a few nice passes. He played adequately on defence. Nothing outstanding. The Russians were out of synch much of the game, looking like they hadn't played together much.

And now Canada-Finland. We get to see Thoma and Kyrou.

Katchouk scored on that drive. I guess Thomas got an assist. 27 seconds later, on the power play, Kyrou shoots, and Steel knocks in the rebound. 2-0 Canada!

33 seconds after Finland scores, Batherson pops the puck into an almost wide open net! Canada leads 3-1!

After another great kill, Period 1 ends, 3-1 Canada. They took the play to Finland. Both Thomas and Kyrou played well, getting very involved in the offence. They played a part in 2 of the 3 goals.

Nice pass interception by Thomas at the Offensive Blueline, skates in on goal and takes a nice shot.

But The Finns score on the power play, closing the gap to 3-2.

Kyrou with a great chance by driving the net!

Seconds later, Raddish buries one, and Canada leads 4-2!

Good 2nd for Team Canada. Canada leads 4-2. Thomas has looked super so far, in all zones. Kyrou has looked very good at times in The O-Zone. .

Super defensive play by Foote to keep the puck from crossing Canada's goal line! Keeps Canada's 2 goal lead.

Impressive win for Canada, unlike The Czech Republic's shaky win, and Russia's shakier loss.

USA beat Denmark 9-0. I didn't bother to watch, instead attending a family Boxing Day dinner in Winnipeg. As a 2-month house guest, I couldn't be rude just to watch a non-competitive game, with no Canadian players, (despite the fact that I've met some of The Danish players.

USA vs. Canada on Friday, in the open air game should be good.

Meh.

To be serious, it's good to hear they are doing well. I'm really looking forward to when they can join the big club.

Thanks for your updates. :letsgoblues:

I turned off the USA-Denmark game after the first period - it was already 5-0. Men vs Boys in this one.

And there are no Blues prospects on Team USA. Only reason to watch Team USA - is USA! USA! USA! and to see the kids who aren't drafted, yet <cough>Brady Tkachuk</cough>. I still think he's better than his brother in terms of development.

Meanwhile, in the TSN preview for Team Canada, Ray Ferraro brought up Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou as his 1st two impact players.

I love this tournament. Unfortunately, taking a trip to DC, so after tomorrow, going to have the watch rest of the tournament via DVR when I get back.
