Love the overall effort tonight. They actually looked good, with the exception of the 5 on 3 powerplay. That just pissed me off. You can't stand around and expect to just score.

Nice road win! Blues staying afloat with Schwartz's return just around the corner!

They DO need to fix The Power Play, and play the talented kids more going forward.

Power play is still broken.

I still stay the simple answer is only use defenseman as the points, but please put one leftie and one rightie on the ice for each unit. Putting two lefties or two righties out there takes away options. It's almost like they have to do something unique for the power play to work, instead of just Keeping It Simple, Stupid. Doing something unique has the Blues ranked where on the power play? 29th of 31 teams and are lucky it's still only 29th, but Columbus and Buffalo have even worse power plays by more than 1%.

Does anyone actually listen the things Bernie says on the post-game show? He just called Tarasenko (26, 12-13-91) a much younger player than Schenn (26, 8-22-91)

So months now equals "much younger."

How about that Carter Hutton? Dude's earning himself a nice paycheck on his next contract.

I expect Allen will start one of the next two games (Arizona and Ottawa). The bigger question though, is who starts against Colorado on the 25th? Hutton's record makes him the statistical choice, but if Allen has a good next outing I wouldn't be surprised to see Yeo play him in an effort to get his starter some wins against tougher teams.

Ride with Hutton as long as necessary, dude's winning and that's what matters.

I think we ride the hot hand with the hope/expectation of Allen taking back over before the playoffs. Hutton is playing great right now and Allen isn't, but I still see Allen as the guy I want in the playoffs.

Great back to back wins here coming out of the gate. Phenomenal.

Also that loss really puts Ottawa on the outside. They really needed a win.

The chatter about the Sens listening to offers for Karlsson heating up too. That would be a kings ransom if they decided to trade. Also would basically announce a rebuild, or at least a quasi-one. Can't fathom how they trade him but we've seen crazier things.

The Sens trading Kyle Turris was because they knew they couldn't afford to re-sign him, in spite of the owner's statements to the contrary. So how are they going to afford re-signing Karlsson? He has already gone on record stating he is going to "to do what's best for him" which came out pretty much immediately after Turris was traded. In other words, Karlsson isn't taking a "loyalty to the Senators" deal to stay.

As to Hutton and Allen - if it's okay to ride the hot hand with forwards and move them up and down lines accordingly, do the same with the goaltenders. Yes, I expect Allen will get one more start in January, but I wouldn't start him until Hutton struggles. Give Allen the same mid-season break he got last year at about this time.

If Hutton is still playing outstanding up to the Colorado game, play Hutton. Play whichever guy gives you the best chance to win. If statistically it's Hutton and he's playing well, you play Hutton.

With only 8 games remaining against Eastern Conference teams, 2 of them being Ottawa and Buffalo, give Allen the nod in those two "less meaningful" games to make sure his mind is right. Then keep riding the hot hand.

Will be a little more interesting how the back-to-back with Colorado/Winnipeg is handled on Feb 8th and 9th.
