Danava was the opener for Down last night, and I really dug them a lot. They reminded me of Sabatoge era Sabbath.

By the way, that Down show was awesome. I really wish I was going to the STL show tomorrow night, although it would be an abbreviated set. I would honestly go to see them...Metallica would be a slight bonus.

Haven't even visited this part of the forum yet. Last album I purchased was Ben Folds' "Way to Normal" but I've got several good ones on my list that I need to buy. Just haven't went album shopping as much as I regularly do.

Cynic - Traced in Air

I've had the album for two months now, but finally procured a physical, legal copy. Yay me.

Did you get it at WalMart? I bet they'll only care the limited edition box set.

Opeth's My Arms, Your Hearse is so much better than Orchid or Morningrise. It defined who Opeth would become. Good stuff.

No additions today, but I have 75 songs on eMusic waiting for me. I loaded up on blues classics last month -- Muddy Waters, Robert Johnson, Howlin' Wolf, etc.

Hah, no, I had to shell out the cash for the delivery from the Seasons of Mist distro.

Agreed. So many great songs on that album... April Ethereal, When, The Amen Corner, and one of my favorites by them, Demon of the Fall.

However, my favorite Opeth album has to be Still Life.

I finally picked up Cynic's "Traced In Air". I'm a little suprised that eMusic had it.

I also bought:
The Sword - "Gods of the Earth" (doom for hipsters)
Electric Wizard - "Dopethrone" (doom for stoners)
Enslaved - "Eld" (viking black metal)
Sacramentum - "Thy Black Destiny" (melodic death/black metal)
Destruction - "All Hell Breaks Loose" (1 of Germany's Big 3 of thrash)
Kreator - "Voices of Transgression" (2 of Germany's Big 3 of thrash)

:firedevil:

(BTW - Sodom is #3, in case you were wondering. Metallica, Medageth and Anthrax were the Big 3 in the US).

I prefer Kreater over Destruction, simply for Pleasure to Kill.

Also, don't get Enslaved's new album, its crap. Some of the more uninspired work they've ever done.

Blackwater Park for me. That album is simply mind-blowing from beginning to end.

So how is this? I saw BF had a new album out, but haven't bought it yet.

Was also thinking about the new Keane album, anyone heard it?

I've been listening to The Black Keys a lot, and I've been listening to some live State Radio while waiting for them to drop their new album. Wonder when Clutch is going back into the studio....

I've been listening to the new Cynic Traced In Air. The music is top notch, but I the vocals just seem to be wrong. I thought the same thing was true of Focus. On Focus, the vocals reminded me too much of Fear Factory. On Traced In Air, the vocals are just kind of whimpy. It's a good thing the music redeems all value.

This amuses me a little. It wasn't long ago that I couldn't stand harsh vocals. Now, in many cases, clean vocals ruin it for me.

The vocals are kind of lame on the new album. I loved the vocoder/growling mix they had on Focus, because it was, at the time, a groundbreaking approach, and it added to the feel of the album, especially on songs like "Sentiment" and "Veil of Maya". This new album's vocals, however, don't have enough growls at all, which is a shame, since they still have Tony Teegarden, the guy who did the harsh vocals on the last album.

Symptom of the Universe and Megalomania...

I liked Pantera's cover of Hole in the Sky, too.
