Re: Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

[On a scale of 1-10, 10 being Nik Lidstrom, 5 being average NHL defensemen, and 1 being 7th NHL defenseman on the worst team, I'd put him at about 7.5... On a scale of 1 to 10, this is how I would rate our defensemen: Colaiacovo - 6.5 Polak - 6.5 Jackman - 5.5 McKee - 5.5 Strachan - 5.5 Brewer - 5 ...

Re: Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

I'd say on at least 15 NHL teams he's a top pairing defenseman. That sure sounds like a wild unsubstantiated claim with no evidence to back it up. How about you tell us what 15 teams he'd be a top pairing D-man on? ANA: Pronger, Niedermayer...NO ATL: Enstrom, Salmela, Hainsey...Maybe BOS: Chara, Wi...

Re: Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

I'd rather match Butcher against a teams top line than anyone we have right now. Pollack has been good....he's been very good. I was never a fan of Butcher. Honestly, Polak hasn't been as good since he's come back from his foot injury. The goal he allowed against Vancouver was awful. That being sai...

He'd at least punish them after they score.
Jackman will punch them in the face after they score and get called for a penalty. Does that count?

Re: Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

Brewer isn't a top two paring defenseman, much less a #1 or 2. At this point he's no better than a #5-6, but he gets paid like a #2-3. That is our problem with him. He's not earning his salary.

Re: Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

Honestly, most of my problems with Jackman are mental as well. I can't count how many times he's tried clearing the puck of the middle during the PK, and it got intercepted and then turned into a goal. Remember the Washington game? Jackman loses track of his man in front of the net quite a bit. He d...

Re: Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

I think Jackman has the talent to be a good defenseman. Look what he did in his rookie year and in 06-07. I just don't think he has the head to be a good defenseman on a consistent basis. Over the next few years, I think the Blues will have plenty of options that will provide more than Jackman on a...

Barret Jackman - Is he or isn't he a good defenseman?

I recently had an email exchange with Tom Awad at the Puck Prospectus. First of all this is what he had to say about how much playing against opponent's top lines will affect his stats: "I don't have a metric that takes into account quality of opposition, however for a defenseman like Jackman who ge...

No, the Burger King guy is still more intimidating than Brewer. The fact that he creeps the hell outta you just leaves a lot of room as to how intimidating Brewer is.

Haven't been able to follow hockey news the past couple days as I've been away from the comptuer for a bit, but the below was posted to the hockey forum of a poker site I read. The person is allegedly someone in the know in the Toronto (I think) area, take it with a grain of salt as all rumors of c...
