Detroit's weak link right now is goaltending...and it's the one position that they won't be acquiring at the deadline, unless Osgood or Hasek go down with a season ending injury or something.

Seriously...did anyone think Osgood was doing to maintain the level of play he had in the first half? People knew a drop off was coming sooner or later...and here it is....finally.

To be fair to Osgood...Detroit's offense hasn't scored more than 2 goals in three straight games. You can't expect to win many games when you only score 2 goals a night.

He's had a four game stretch where he has been less-than-stellar and you sound like you are ready to run him out of town.

Detroit has only scored more than 2 goals one time in their six game losing streak, and they have a grand total of 10 goals scored over those 6 games.
That's an average of 1.67 goals scored per game.

I don't care how well or how poorly your goaltending plays...when you are scoring less than 2 goals per game, you can't expect to win and you just can't put all of the blame your goaltender.

I agree, jeesh. The entire team is sucking ass right now, but I have a problem with a goaltender who "played out of his mind" the entire first half and once he signed a contract extension he proceeded to let in 5, 3, 3 and 4 goals in four games. He's done this before, starts off hot and then sucks and it's getting pretty old. This isn't just something that i've noticed, it's pretty much the Wings entire fan base. At least the state of the team forces Holland's hand at the GM meetings now.

I agree, jeesh. Osgood was overachieving early in the year. I don't think many would disagree with that.
Did you expect him to have a GAA under 2.00 all year?
But based on what he has done, I wouldn't throw him to the wolves yet. It's only been 4 games...and had the offense stepped up like they are capable of and bailed him out, he might be 2-2 in those four games instead of 0-4.
Maybe it's just me...but you'd think he would have earned a bit more appreciation from Wings fans based on his play all season long until Feb. 7th.
Legace regressed for a handful of games after the all-star break, but seems to be back on track now.
Osgood could turn it back around in no time.

Here's hoping he doesn't.

Osgood will be fine, but he was never going to be the postseason guy anyway (barring a more serious injury to Gumby), so I think entirely too much is being made of it as it is.

I predict that the Wings will sign McCarty to a contract before the trade deadline. They'll keep him in Grand Rapids for a while longer to condition and bring him up to play the last 10 games or so before the playoff's.

They will also sign one big name at the trade deadline, and another off name forward with size and grit.
