Rounds 2-7? on NHL Network @9am. Got it Tivo'ed.Leedog wrote:Sorry I saw this too late. Someone had a link to it on the STL today board. Worked well for the Wings.BSNoseblunt wrote:I guess I trust in Jarmo as well, but is anyone else tiring of exclusively drafting players from Sweden?

Ponich and Andronov seem like MAJOR reaches, especially Ponich.
In Jarmo we trust and all that, but these seem like lousy draft picks with some of the guys that were on the board (or that we could've traded up a bit for, I'd have gladly dealt Ponich and Andronov for Budish, surely a 3rd would've been enough to move up 10 slots in the 2nd).

3 - Defensemen and 2 - Rightwingers.
Not to sure what to think of the draft pics. Time will tell.

If memory serves me right I believe they called Oshie a reach too and Perron wasn't the best pick. You maybe right but I will give it a little time before I make judgments.

Keep in mind that Andronov and Tyler Shattock are overagers, so they'll make an impact likely within the next two years. Shattock was invited to the Sharks camp at the start of last season so he got a bit of a taste of NHL lif and then went on to have his best season by far.
Not the most exciting draft, but I'll definitely wait a bit before I pass judgment. Rundblad(duh), Andronov and Shattock will be good players I feel, or at least hold enough value to bring a pick back in a trade. Anytime you can get 2 or 3 solid assets in a draft year, especially with only 6 or 7 draft picks total, you're doing a good job.

Under no circumstances should St. Louis have drafted another Russian, ESPECIALLY one that low in the draft. Is there any reason to believe he'll ever come over here?

Why not? I mean there are russian players in the league, not like they all (Frank) over the teams that draft them.

I PVR'ed the 3 hour TSN broadcast. They got to pick 21, one before the nucks, before the recording ended. Frank.
Could the new Wild GM take any longer. Looks like the Wild will continue to be the team no one gives a frank about, except for everyone praying their management will retire for the good of the game.

No doubt, if they didn't want a chance to play in the NHL why would they even go through the draft then.section319 wrote:Why not? I mean there are russian players in the league, not like they all (Frank) over the teams that draft them.

Re: The 2009 NHL Draft Thread - Friday June 25 - Versus 6pm
A little shocked they took Ponich, especially so early. He plays for the Portland Winterhawks, so I've seen him play the past couple years. He stands out because he is inches taller than everyone else. He seems rather passive.. Although I've seen him blow a fuse and he just pounded another player. Maybe as he gets older, he'll develop more meanness. He is definitely a project.
He plans to stay another year up here. I now have a player I can report on.

The scouting term for this is "elite dangle." We are looking for players with "elite dangle."illownyou wrote:Guess we're looking for guys who aren't ashamed of their penis...you know...cockfidence.SIU LAW wrote:Swedish poster from the Asylum:
I just read in the swedish newspaper Aftonbladet that the Blues had interviewed swedish prospect Carl Klingberg in a somewhat unusual way.
The Blues called him to their hotelroom and asked him to take off his clothes (except the underwear) and stand in front of them. Then they asked him to do 3 high jumpes infront of their table, a table which 10 of the Blues scouting staff sat behind.
I don`t think they wanted to check my physical status, it was more of a mental test, to see how I would react, Klingberg said.
In the same article they say that St. Louis is famous for doing stuff like this, and they put Patrik Berglund through the same routine before picking him in the first round of 2006.
Klingberg is a big forward from Frolundas juniorteam, (the same team as Lars Eller) and he is supposed to be picked somewhere between #20 and #40...

We mad it on TV! Right when the canadiens pick is announced they pan to the upper deck and we are on for about 2 seconds.
My 2 seconds of fame. Still have 14min 58sec left to burn.
Edit: you can also here us cheer when they announced it was the blues pick, we were the only 2 st. louisans there as fans.

Turn up your speakers, RL gets the second biggest ovation apart from anything MTL.
