Funny is relative. Let's agree to disagree on the racism part. To me racism is how one truly feels about a race or ethnicity. I love some black people and don't care for others. Makes no diff what race they are. This is just tongue in cheek humor that hearkens back to the day when there virtually no non-Caucasian hockey players. Well, being racist isn't necessarily "how you truly feel".
If you dressed in black face, that's racist. You may not mean anything by it and you may enjoy the company of all individuals no matter what their race...but just because you truly feel you are not racist, that doesn't mean you aren't being racist with something you do.

Like it or not, good intentions or not, the A. Nigro jokes are racist.

I'm willing to bet that if you were standing next to an African American at Top Shelf at Scottrade, you wouldn't turn to him and tell him an A. Nigro joke.

It's not racist. Some people are hypersensitive to race or other subjects. You don't tell those types of jokes in their company. Just like if you said something is retarded. There is a difference between racist and offensive. Someone can be offensive without meaning anything by it. If one is offensive ON PURPOSE and in doing so they appeal to a prejudice against someone of a different race then THAT is racist.


Most of the stuff I've seen here is merely offensive--to some. But as I've always said, if it doesn't piss someone off it probably ain't funny. Some stuff regarding Anthony N. treads pretty close to the line of being racist. But let's face it, if his name was Felix Manslapper or Bob Cox we'd be all over those too--because they're funny names. And "A. Nigro" is just too easy a target for some to resist. Maybe if his first name had been Jim or Mike or . . well anything not starting in A (except of course Harry) then he might have gotten a pass.
