I wonder if they even practice breaks. Just look at the shootout numbers. Its the one part of the Blues game that is god awful.
Ah geez the shootout numbers... 1 for the season, right?

Hey! I gotta complain about something. They are playing so good lately, I gotta find something to bitch about. They've been bad for so long, I got used to complaining.

I miss complaining about the annual postseason let down. Thankfully we'll probably be able to get back to postseason letdowns again this year.

The Blues were (again) the better team tonight. They got hosed on that last penalty, and Oshie left that side of the ice open when he went to get another stick. But the Blues dominated for long stretches, they just couldn't get that third goal. They had chances. They get a point too, so it's not all bad. It was a fun game either way.

And, by the way, TJ, that was absolutely beyond stupid. This point is on you. Please attempt to develop a brain.

Hitch stated during his press conference that Oshie returning to the bench is the coaches' fault and not Oshie's. He stated they have a philosophy about stick breaking situations, and it backfired in this scenario and they shouldn’t apply this philosophy in 4 on 3 scenarios. He stated the staff apologized to the players for their mistake.

As for the Backes call, I hated it, but I can guess why it happened. Backes got away with mauling Burrows earlier in the game, so Burrows or the Nucks may have complained about that, putting the refs on notice and making them overly sensitive to Backes/Burrows battles.

Glad David got his money's worth. Burrows better be grass the next time we play.

- Overall, Blues dominated most of the game. It doesn't feel like a loss really. We beat them both games before and outplayed them again tonight, they just happened to get the win in a bit of a gift situation in overtime. Meh. We kind of own them this year. Not that worried about them really. I'd love to play them in the Conference Finals.

- Didn't have McDonald, Steen or Jackman...and we still controlled the game. They are all close to returning as well.

- Can't stand Burrows. What a POS.

- The call on Backes was a bit weak...but technically I think that is a penalty...it just shouldn't have been called at that point in the game. It was more a case of Burrows being weak on his skates, but Backes did check him...so...whatever. Tough call.

- Oshie going to the bench wasn't his decision, it was the coach's call. Ended up being a terrible choice as it left the lane wide open and led directly to the goal.

They didn't show the penalty on the highlights, so I haven't been able to go back and look at it again. Watching real-time, though, it just looked like a stronger player knocking a weaker player off the puck. Backes sure didn't like the call.

They were no where near the boards when backes nudged him - there was any penalty there it was a dive. You just can't make that call as an official. With 19 seconds to play you pretty much decided the game for the players.

It's all over that the bench was responsible for Oshie coming to get a stick, not TJ.

More importantly, that goal was f ing soft. There was plenty of time for Elliot to get square and make that save for his team.

It's fine, I knew we wouldn't be getting a second point if it went past regulation, so at least I didn't have to watch us get sodomized in a shootout.

We dominated that game everywhere but the scoreboard. We need another finisher for this team to take the next step.

I was talking with a buddy of mine who works full time at a hockey rink. He said that the referees they have unanimously agreed that the Backes hit was a penalty and I tend to agree. I didn't like the call, but I think that was definitely boarding.

My only issue with the call is that it happened with 19 seconds left in a tie game AND it wasn't a super obvious penalty that absolutely had to be called.

That is one of the major reasons the league has trouble drawing new fans, a penalty should be a penalty no matter what the game situation is. You either broke the rules or you did not.
