Watch a baseball game to hold yourself over. The Pirates are doing quite well this summer.

I still wonder if there will be a lockout or not, clubs over here in Switzerland are somehow planning to get NHL-Players for cheap :ninja:

Forgive my confusion. One is a low scoring sport where games consistently top the 3 hour mark with a lot of guys standing around for much of the duration. The other is a low scoring sport where games go long if they hit the 2 hour mark and guys are constantly in motion. I just have understood the difference.

That is when they aren't diving on the ground pretending someone broke their leg so the other 21 guys can stand around and rest. ;)

I'm with Sparty. We've got the Olympics for the next couple of weeks, that works just fine as a hold-you-over until pre-season. Anyway, hockey won't be starting on time, if it starts at all. Not this season anyway.

As of this minute (always subject to change) I think they will start the season late....mid December....but they will play this year.

They "the league and players" can't afford to lose an other season. If that happened hockey would be dead everywhere with the exception of Van, Toronto, Ed, and maybe Cal. Teams in the US would just have to shutter the doors.

Again, I think they saw they way the shortened NBA season let to higher gates and viewership and thus owners who thing they are loosing money, will love the idea of equal revenue for lesser days of operation.

They may very well end up wrong in that prediction, but based on what the NBA saw this year.......I'm certain the lower revenue owners are thinking that way.

They will play under the current CBA before they lose another game to lockout. The NHLPA is not dumb enough to think the league can survive another extended lockout intact.

That's wishful thinking. In many professions, such as mine, if our contract expires, we're bound by the expired contract as long as it takes to get a new one. Hockey is not such a profession, they're not bound by a Taylor Law, they'll lock them out if they want and I bet they will.

From the news I read, Bettman is dumb enough to lock the players out again.

I really think Bettman is the problem, not part of the solution. The owner's proposal was laughable, so they better be ready to truly give some concessions or this is another lost season.

Maybe we can just have the guys make a new league or something.

Or can we just oust the commissioner? They have over a month to get things going. They pull a lock out this year it will kill the NHL.

So the owners pony up these ridiculous contracts under this current CBA to Kovalchuk, Weber, Suter, Parise, etc.... Not to mention the other over-paid defensive FAs this off-season.

Then, Bettman has the nerve to say with a straight face the league will not continue to operate under the current CBA, because the owners have to reduce the amount of revenue going to player costs. (This is from the most recent CBA video on the NHL's website (8/9/2012).

I don't think there is a big enough  for Bettman's statement.

How about getting your owner's under control first, dumbass.

Found this funny piece of info
The NHL lost its entire 2004-05 season to a lockout and seems to be facing the growing possibility of another one. It would be the third on Bettman's watch.
That's one too many in my opinion.

I have a bad feeling we'll be without hockey for the entire season, gentlemen. Bettman is just that much of a phuckhead to piss away another season, and in turn about 90% of the fans and any chance hockey had of competing with the other major sports.
