Who Will Leave First?
We've got a few days before our next game, so in hopes that this place doesn't become a ghost town between now and then, I thought I'd come up with a poll to get some chatter going.
The purpose behind this is that Berglund, Perron, and Oshie have been together since they all came in the league, basically. In that crazy run in '08-'09, they were known as "The Kid Line" and the hope that something better was on the horizon. Anyone remember they actually had "Kid Line" shirts?
Eventually, everything must come to an end, and in that case, who will be the first to go?
For me, it's Oshie. He was a hugely marketable presence for the Blues when he first joined the team. But now that Petro and Shatty have emerged and 'Senko is finally in the Note, it seems like Osh has kind of taken a backseat these days. Plus, out of the three, his skill set is the most replaceable, in my opinion.
So...what say ye?

I'm not sure why you would want to get rid of Oshie, he plays good offense, good defense, plays both the PK and PP. Plus he works hard to get turnovers and can hit. I like Oshie as a player.

Re: Who Will Leave First?
I do too. And I'm not saying I want to get rid of Oshie, the question is who will leave first. The way I look at it, Berglund is a big body with skill at the center position and those aren't always easy to find without ponying up serious FA cash or quite a bit in a trade. Perron has otherwordly hands and a knack for scoring. He can get a little too cute in the offensive zone, sure, but he's got that one killer skill that's hard to replicate. Oshie is all of the things you listed above, but you look at someone like Steen who fills a similar role on the team. You can find those players and that's why I think Oshie is the most expendable of the 3. There's no wrong answer here at all, I'm just curious to see what everyone thinks will happen down the road.STLADOGG wrote:I'm not sure why you would want to get rid of Oshie, he plays good offense, good defense, plays both the PK and PP. Re: Who Will Leave First?
I agree that Oshie would be the most easily replaced, however I just don't see DP as a fit for a Hitch team and he could have real value to a team that plays a more offensive game.
I know there is a possibility Bergy walks at the end of the year (that would be a big mistake), but I'm not convinced David will finish the season here.

Re: Who Will Leave First?
I don't think Oshie will be first one gone because he just signed a 5 year deal with the team.
Bergie is probably the most important to the team, so I'd like to think we'll keep him at (reasonably) all costs.
I could see Perron being moved this year too. I like Perron (although get frustrated with him), but I agree that he might do well in another system.

Perron has a bad attitude. But Oshie needs to play up to what he was branded.
Stewart should have been traded long ago. Worthless...

Re: Who Will Leave First?
I'm surprised no one says Langs as the first to go since his age, injury and the fact he's already hoisted the Cup would make him the first to leave and to leave the way any other player would want to go out; as having won it all.
My answer: None of them will leave first. The first to go will be AMac, and it won't be a trade, it'll be to retire.
Andy's got his name on the Cup, has had a very good career and really has nothing left to strive for beyond getting his name on the Cup again.
Of the three, Bergy would be the one in my mind to be dealt before Perron and Osh. He has a lot going for him and none of the negatives of Perron or Oshie. Perron is going to be looked at as a concussion case first and foremost no matter how many goals or assists he scores. He hasn't played like a team player and if another team grabs him, it's my belief that he'll be used for a limited purpose; PP squad or as a fourth liner for depth.
Oshie may be a fan favorite here, but across the rest of the league, he's a talented player with some potential. That's it. The only people who truly value him highly, is us.

Re: Who Will Leave First?
Some of you are missing the point. The question was, who of the original "kids" would leave first. Not who on the Blues team would be the next to go.
My vote was for DP, even though he's been my favorite since he came up. Especially since we got Tarasenko now, his feels might be hurt because he's no longer the most skilled guy on the team.

Re: Who Will Leave First?
We don't have any superstars up front...and I don't think it's in management's best interest to get rid of Berglund (who is breaking out a bit this year), Oshie (our best two way forward), or Perron (the best hands we have on the team).
I'm not sure why some of you feel that Oshie is the most replaceable. He's a stellar two way forward that can hit, and has that "hockey sense" that is so coveted...plus he is a huge fan favorite that puts people in the seats and sells jerseys. He's a valuable commodity on and off the ice. I don't think any of them are easily replaceable. But I think he's the most valuable, overall, of the three and would be the hardest to replace. And he just signed a 5-year deal...he's not going anywhere for a while.
I could see Perron getting moved I guess. He doesn't play a two way game, which makes him less valuable to Hitchcock. He is flashy and can dazzle at times in the offensive zone, which may artificially inflate his price some because that kind of thing oozes potential from a younger player and makes highlight clips. He did have that lengthy concussion, which may bring his value down somewhat, but that's also another reason to sell high if we can.
I don't want to see any of them go. Of course, it does depend on what the return is...but I like this group and want to see how this pans out over the 2-3 years. These guys aren't superstars, and we'd all love to have a superstar on this team...but trading one of those guys isn't going to bring in superstar. You'd have to trade more than one of them along with a pick or prospect to get a huge name...and then you've hurt the depth of this team.
Maybe once Rattie and Jaskin make the club out of camp (hopefully next year or the year after), that will be a different story as they could easily come in and contribute right away. There are high hopes for both of them. There is only so much room on the roster. I guess that's a nice situation to have. I just wish one of these guys would develop into a 40-goal superstar, instead of just a very good 20+ goal forward with the potential to do more.

Regarding Rattie and Jaskin, someone's gotta replace A-Mac when he retires.
On the original question... bye DP. Your flashy highlight reel goals may make people forget your hideous defensive lapses, moronic turnovers and complete inability to play any semblance of a two way team game, but I'm not one who will forget those. Thanks for playing, see ya on the other team.

So did Cujo, Hull, Stevens, Shanahan, Pronger, etc, etc.cprice12 wrote:...plus he is a huge fan favorite that puts people in the seats and sells jerseys.
And the collective return on all of those All-Stars to this day: Zero. But most did go on to other places and win a ton of Cups.
Perron, Oshie, etc aren't half the players those guys were. Our last true All Star has to be Pronger...no one else since could command others teams like Pronger and the laundry list of great players we had and tossed away for virtually nothing.

This is what happens when your ownership buys players on closeout, previously used and as a restoration project. Moral: Stillman, show them the money. And then give it to them.Shanahan19 wrote:So did Cujo, Hull, Stevens, Shanahan, Pronger, etc, etc.cprice12 wrote:...plus he is a huge fan favorite that puts people in the seats and sells jerseys.

Re: Who Will Leave First?
I say Perron as well as I was frankly shocked so many agree with me!
The guy is good, no doubt about it. Love his hands and awareness and offensive play. But he had that major concussion which has hurt him I think, he's small, and with Tarasenko up and coming, he's replaceable.
You CANNOT easily replace a guy like Oshie. Oozes intensity, with a decent offensive touch and can deliver punishing body checks. If I had to choose the LAST of the three to go, it'd be Oshie.
Berglund has really been coming into his own finally. His size is what sets him apart from Perron and, in my mind, makes him the higher commodity. Nothing against Perron but if I had to take a pick between the three, I wave him goodbye.

Re: Who Will Leave First?
I would trade Perron yesterday. Given the way this season appears to be turning out (we're playing like crap but definitely in the thick of things because so is everyone else except Chicago) I wouldn't mind so much a few trades to mix things up now and try to send a message to those remaining. If AMac wasn't hurt I could see trading him on account of he won't be in the note after this season anyway so get what you can get, I could definitely see trading Perron and I would also be a big fan of them trading Stewart.
I wouldn't be against them inking Rattie and bringing him in. I would be extremely against them trading anyone off the current defense.
