Might be a hernia as a result of hitting the boards wrong. hopefully minor...

The injuries that happen when it doesn't look like anything out of the ordinary happened are the worst, see Victor Cruz.

Next man up. Cole will get more minutes and he needs them. Plus, it's a chance for Butler to redeem himself after a rough patch put him upstairs for awhile. Shatty will be missed (duh) but the Blues need to see what these other boys are really made of.

Re: Shatty's surgery
When I first saw on NHL.com "Shattenkirk to have abdominal surgery" I just had a panic moment of "sh*t he's gone for the year"
Then it sounded like it's pretty minor and he'll be only week to week afterwards.
I can live with that. Yea maybe a hernia.

Re: Shatty's surgery
Wonder if this means we'll be in the market for a D-man come trade deadline time.
Either way, get these injuries out of the way so we're healthy come April.

I'd be surprised.dmiles2186 wrote:Wonder if this means we'll be in the market for a D-man come trade deadline time.

We're pretty well stacked depth-wise all over the board. Obviously if something presents itself I'd look for Army to make a move but the biggest complication I see is that we don't have a first round pick this year IIRC from the Ryan Miller trade. Buffalo wanted our first rounder from 2015 not 14.
I just hate forfeiting first round picks for rental guys that we aren't going to have the salary cap space to re-sign this offseason anyway. Unless as part of the trade we part with Berglund, Ott and Jackman. Man that'd be awesome.

Spleen? Can't tell if something got him in the gut from the back angle and haven't seen any other angle.
I hate the fact that they don't have to disclose this stuff in the NHL.

Re: Shatty's surgery
I doubt it's a hernia. I got one during wrestling season in HS and I finished the season with it. I think he would have finished the game and doubt he would have even noticed until after. If that is what it is, shouldn't be a big deal. Depending on pain tolerance, probably 2-4 weeks after surgery.

Maybe its a broken rib?
Not sure if a surgery would help this though.

Re: Shatty's surgery
There is no surgery for broken ribs. I've broken more than one more than once and the docs answers for that - rest, rest, rest.... no tape, no nothing. but painkillers. Why no tape or wrap? Tape and wraps increase the risk of puncturing a lung. So they don't do that any more, in spite of whatever tv shows you. My busted ribs were in 94 and 2000. Treatment was identical both times, with two completely different docs telling me the exact same reasons why the only thing to do is rest and take painkillers for a limited time,.STLADOGG wrote:Maybe its a broken rib?

Re: Shatty's surgery
What if the surgery is unrelated to the injury from the other night?
Say he had a minor abdominal hernia that needs to get fixed in the off season, but he tweaked a knee Sunday and will be out 2-4 weeks.
If he isn't playing and the injuries have similar recovery times, go ahead and get the other issue fixed in order to be 100% for the playoffs since you can't play anyway.
Idk, just a thought.

Re: Shatty's surgery
It sucks the surgery can't be done for 7-10 days...and then he'll be week to week. So he's likely out at least 3-4 weeks from today.

Weird. I wonder if we'll have to wait till after the season to find out what actually happened?

I know. It looks like nothing happened except that he fell and that happens all the time during a game.abc789987 wrote:Weird. I wonder if we'll have to wait till after the season to find out what actually happened?

I really, really need to stop reading Facebook comments on the Official Blues Facebook posts. Those are some of the dumbest comments you'll ever read anywhere.

Re: Shatty's surgery
There are many different types of hernia you can get with varying severity and potential for complication. But agree with the 2nd part of what you wrote - the "week to week after surgery" actually makes me all but certain it's a hernia - once you get that mesh in there, it ain't going anywhere. He'll be skating almost right away.cardsfan04 wrote:I doubt it's a hernia. I got one during wrestling season in HS and I finished the season with it.
