You have bench players for days when your regulars are off. You swap them in and out as necessary. You scour the waiver wire to get a stronger bench, it's called strategy. Whether or not the guy is or isn't playing in real life is irrelevant. And don't understand fantasy sports at all.
Football - you have to decide which guys to play each week, because you only have so many positions. Guys you had on the bench get nothing. It's called being a fantasy coach.
Baseball - If you were dumb enough to leave a starting pitcher on the bench who pitched a no-hitter, should you get credit for not starting him and playing some other yahoo??? HELL NO!!!!
