Obviously some forwards as well: Rattie, Berglund and a junior prospect. And also a future pick or two. They'd probably also ask for some goaltending. Elliott?
If it's even available (which it might not be), they'd want Tarasenko.
Bingo. I doubt this #1 overall will be available, because it will be hard to sell a fan base on giving up "the next Sydney Crosby." But, since it's the Oilers and anything is possible with them, they'd want a franchise player in return and Bouwmeester, Rattie, Berglund, nor Elliott qualifies for that.
Of course we won't get him. I'm just dreaming here, but honestly Edmonton is grossly mismanaged and they'll have to get rid of some of the other guys in the organization to keep McDavid. Hall, Eberle, RNH could all be had in a deal at or after the draft.
Yea in maybe 6 years.
They're selecting McDavid.
They don't have salary cap issues.
They won't for a long time.
The end.
I can't even come up with a rational response to the mere suggestion of what it would take for the Oilers to trade the top pick.
Vannelli, Fabbri and a first round pick to the Ducks for Perry and Getzlaf!
Allen and Tarasenko to the Penguins for Crosby and Malkin!!

MacTavish has come out and said there is zero chance he will trade the #1 pick.
However, they may very well trade one of their young star forwards for some defense and/or goaltending...which only makes sense as they have a boatload of young star forwards, and they suck on D and in net.
Hypothetically it would take Tarasenko along with the first round pick of the Blues for the next 10 years to even have McTavish consider it. And even with that he would want more than just Tarasenko.

Well, let's not get crazy here.
The Blues wouldn't offer Tarasenko plus future #1 picks for the first overall pick this year. Nor should they.
I wouldn't offer just Tarasenko for the #1 pick. Tarasenko is a proven commodity and budding superstar. McDavid is not proven and may not live up to the hype anyway...who knows.

Well he certainly won't in Edmonton...that's where #1 picks go to die.

Peter Chiarelli introduced as the new GM and President of Hockey Operations for the Oil.
Great move. Best one the Oilers have made in years.
You better believe he is going to be making some trades this summer. I don't think McDavid is going to cause any problems. I think he was more stunned than anything when the Oilers won the lottery and he'll get over it and agree to join the Oilers. Especially that MacTavish is gone/replaced/demoted. That guy sucked.

The other thing too is that Taylor Hall is injured a lot, Yakupov is a draft bust, and Nugent Hopkins is good, not phenomenal. McDavid sounds like Gretzky #2. I wouldn't be surprised to see them trade 2 of the previous first round drafts to get some tending and defense. Poor McDavid - you know he's just cringing having to play in Edmonton.
There's a wealth of immense coaching talent that will be available soon. With Chiarelli taking over, it's likely that he'll bring Claude Julien with him if Boston relieves him of his duties. That would certainly serve to improve their defense anyway. Given some proper moves (for once) McDavid could end up being very happy. Pre-this GM change, Edmonton was a surefire trainwreck. But now I'm not so sure.

Winning cures everything. They get the ship right and start to win some hockey games McDavid will be happy as a clam.
