Hitchcock Re-signs for 1 Year

Post by STLADOGG »

Ken Hitchcock agreed to a one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday, returning to the team he has coached for the past four seasons.

Hitchcock, 63, comes off a season in which he led the Blues to the Central Division title and 109 points, third-most in franchise history. The Blues were eliminated by the Minnesota Wild in six games in the Western Conference First Round, after which Hitchcock said he would take time to determine his future.

The Blues were granted permission by the Detroit Red Wings to talk to Mike Babcock, whose contract was set to expire June 30; however, Babcock signed an eight-year contract worth a reported $50 million on May 20 to coach the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Hitchcock was named Blues coach on Nov. 7, 2011, replacing Davis Payne. He has a 175-79-27 record in the regular season, giving him 708 career wins, fourth on the NHL's all-time list. St. Louis defeated the San Jose Sharks in the first round of the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but was swept by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round and has not won a postseason series since.

Hitchcock coached the Dallas Stars to a Stanley Cup championship in 1999 and returned to the Cup Final in 2000. He has also coached the Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets.
Cannot sigh enough.

More assumptions, Dmiles?

Seriously who didn't see this coming a million miles away?

I'm wearing Rangers colors today, at least they've won a Cup and being behind actually inspires them to try harder and not give up instead of trying the same thing over and over again and wonder why it still won't work.

So the front office will do the same thing for a 4th year in a row and expect different results next spring. I believe that's the definition of insanity.

Let me know when this club wins a couple playoff series in one spring. Until then, I can't think of any reason to pay attention.

This. This franchise is a clown car. If you need to drink indoors in the winter so badly, you shouldn't have to buy tickets for it.

Now that it has happened, 'tis a fact. That's how that works.

I was holding out hope that this wouldn't be the case and now that it is, I'm not happy about it. Only way the organization can make me look forward to next season is if they make some roster moves. Something has to change.

I'm almost hoping for the team to completely fall on their faces... It might be the only way something changes... But who am I kidding... nothing's ever going to change...

I mentioned this in another thread, forget which one: every team that's beaten us the last few years have been quicker than us. They skate around our slow, plodding, checking style. Still not happy Hitch is back but at least they recognize this.

Then why didn't he? It's not like he didn't have the chance over the past several playoffs.

I am so (Franking) god damn pissed I can't see straight.

This organization must enjoy failure. Because that's the only possible reason I can come up with as to why you re-sign this guy.

(Frank) this team, (Frank) this organization. (Frank) you Blues.

I will be a large sum of money right now Armstrong doesn't do jack $hit this offseason and we come into next season with the same (Franking) roster as last year.

I hope we don't make the playoffs next season. I mean that sincerely.

Frankly, what a crock of shit. Next season will be his 20th as an NHL coach. He's going to change now, fundamentally? And if so, what is the point of retaining him? If you want a fresh new style, why not bring in a fresh new coach...you know, who won't have to be paid a stupid salary and maybe hasn't completely lost the room?

Well since there won't be a change in coaching personnel there better be a change in player personnel.

If you really want this franchise to turn the corner, then pass on your season tickets and root for the team to miss the playoffs. If you buy tickets, you're the problem.

Changes?
army still here
hitch still here
cap situation has half the team's in the league over the cap and needing to shed salary by giving away players making it unlikely we can move our underachievers among our core.

where's the change? increase in ticket prices?
