I kind of like the striping on the arms and shins but it's a little too bland for my liking. They should incorporate more of the orange. I feel myself wanting the NY to be contained somehow too. It feels like it's just floating there.

Hey, they misspelled "LA."

I'm not a fan of the "NY". It looks incomplete or something...and it's just too big.
Same thing with the "NY" on the pants. Too big.
I don't know what the Islanders deal is with the huge "NY". They did that last year too.
But I do like the simple jerseys. The simple striping is nice.
A slightly revised black and white version of their existing logo might have been cool.

And yes...if they had incorporated a little more orange...black and orange would have been nice...although Philly already has that scheme...but whatever.

Is it black or navy? Hard to tell but looks black to me. Don't care for another black jersey but I personally do like the logo. And of course, there's a reason for it. They're trying to peel off some of the Rangers fan base in the five boroughs and to do that, they probably need to break the association with Long Island to some extent. Enlarging the "NY" and getting rid of the island was done with that in mind, I'm guessing.

I would have sworn they were wearing these jerseys (sans the BKLYN) last year when I went to the game. Maybe they were just road testing them, or there's some subtle change, but I don't think this is exactly unveiling a new one. I remember commenting to my wife that I didn't particularly care for the Islanders new jersey.

In any event, the constant presence of four stripes everywhere pisses me off because it's a gentle reminder that this team that has been around for less time than the Blues actually did manage to swing four Cups and we're still waiting.

Cue my usual gripe: idiot Ranger fans need to realize that 2 of the 5 boroughs, including the one the Islanders are moving to, are geographically part of Long Island.

I wonder if this move isn't horribly misguided... a lot of Islander fans come from Suffolk and the question is would they be willing to make the trek on the LIRR to see their team in Brooklyn? Moving closer to Manhattan may not prove to be the best idea, long term. A new arena in Suffolk rather than Nassau may have been the best decision A) because they'd be able to not piss off their eastern LI fan base and B) it wouldn't cost me a penny in tax hikes since I'm no longer a Suffolk resident. I did vote no when they wanted to rebuild the Coliseum/surrounding area because I didn't want my taxes, as a Nassau resident, going higher than they already outlandishly are. Of course now that they've bandied about putting a casino or low income housing where the Coliseum currently is, I'm rethinking my vote.

Not particularly surprising given the color combos that the other Brooklyn teams have. Echo the "bland" sentiments from others: very very basic jersey design that almost makes them look like practice jerseys.

The "Brklyn" thing on the helmet I thought was interesting. Wonder if there's a re-naming of the team in the thought process of ownership...

For starters, there's only one true Brooklyn team and they've been playing in LA for quite a while now.

Secondly, if ownership renames the Islanders, they can go to hell because Brooklyn, for the umpteenth time, is on Long Island. Yes, it's one of the five boroughs and city folk don't like to be called Long Islanders, but that's too bad. I don't like the fact that if I want to see a Blues game against the Isles I now have to change at Jamaica on the Snailroad when I used to be able to drive 15 minutes up the road, but that doesn't change the geography of the area.

Frankly, I've spent a lot of time in Brooklyn... my parents grew up in Brooklyn, my grandma lived in Brooklyn until she died, I did my student teaching in a Brooklyn HS, I still don't think hockey will be successful there. The only thing going for the Islanders right now is that they have already an existing fan base. If they were starting fresh, no way Brooklyn would get an expansion team. Until I'm proven wrong, I'll maintain they should have gone the other direction, out to Suffolk. Plenty of open land there to build a new arena.

I find your take on the potential popularity of the club odd, glen. It's not a given but to tell truth, virtually all the hockey fans I know who live in Queens (where I do-these are guys I play with) are Islanders fans. Many of them burn with a passionate hatred for the Rangers. I seriously know only two local Rangers fans-and one of them is from Brazil...

True. I don't get the "we're all gonna wear black & white & gray. It's bland, for sure.
