Silly idea and unlikely to happen so this is strictly just a hypothetical:
With the Rams mostly likely getting a new stadium built, what about the Blues relocating to Edward Jones?
Both the Scottrade and Edward Jones Dome were built around the same time so the Scottrade isn't necessarily more upgraded.
Advantages: 1) Arguably a better location - closer to the Riverfront, closer to the soon-to-be football stadium, and the Landing. 2) Bigger property, so it'd hold more seats; and since you don't need as many seats for a hockey arena as for a football stadium, all the extra space could be used for some serious renovations: there's potential for many restaurants, bars, party rooms, and possibly some "chase bridges" similar to the Madison Square Garden renovation.
Good idea or what?

Re: Idea of Blues relocating to Edward Jones dome?
Is this a serious question?
Very bad idea.
The dome, or any football stadium, is a horrible place to watch a hockey game. You're too far away from the action and it's way too spacious.
You need to be close to the action in a hockey game...the stands needs to be more vertical like in hockey arenas. In NFL stadiums it's flatter and more spread out. The crowd noise wouldn't be as loud...it would suck actually.
Sure, it's ok for the novelty outdoor games once a year because it's a cool event...but not a permanent thing.

Re: Idea of Blues relocating to Edward Jones dome?
Even though they were built around the same time, Scottrade is way less outdated. It has bigger concourses, better lighting. It's designed specifically for hockey. The Dome is too cavernous and is an awful environment. Even when it's loud in there, the sound sort of disappears.
The other side of this is that when the Rams leave (whether to the stadium across the street or to LA), that opens up the dome to hold conventions the rest of the year, which means $ for the city of St. Louis. It makes more on conventions than football games anyway.

It doesn't even matter how outdated or not it is, or how big the concourses are. The actual act of watching a game in the dome every night, would be so awful, that nobody would go. It would be the worst home building in the NHL of all time. In hockey, fans need to be close to the ice, and as on top of the action as you can get. It just wouldn't be that way in the dome.
Sure...have a novelty game in there once a year. That would be neat to do...once. I'd go once just because. But to move in there permanently? Nope. It would never work.

No, I totally agree about the atmosphere. I mentioned it be cavernous. It would be awful. Stadiums built for their respective sports are always the way to go. When you try to adapt a sport into a building designed for another sport (which we are about to see in Brooklyn), it compromises the experience.cprice12 wrote:It doesn't even matter how outdated or not it is, or how big the concourses are.
