This is the ludicrous argument with small sample sizes, especially with goaltenders. There are many goals in the NHL who haven't led teams to any significant reward at a lower level, simply because, like the NHL, the championships are limited. It's especially ludicrous when, as stated in prior posts, the Blues issue is offense. It wasn't this post-season until the SJ series when Tarasenko, the 3# goals/min guy in the playoffs, disappeared
Will the Blues young core step up having had Conf Final experience? Who knows? I would think they would. Would the young core take the earlier round series more seriously and finish teams prior to Game 7s when they had the chance? I would hope so. But we won't know until next April.
I don't give a damn where they finish as long as they reach the playoffs, considering SJ finished 3rd/6th (Div/Conf), Pittsburgh finished 2nd/2nd (Div/Conf) and both reached the Finals. And we shall see how they perform in the playoffs without Backes and Brouwer.
What some seem to ignore is lots of Brouwer's success was a direct result of Fabbri's play. Troy Brouwer's Game 7 game-winner vs Chicago. It doesn't happen without Fabbri forcing the turnover at the blueline. And then, Fabbri follows the play up and winds up making the pass to give Brouwer the wide open net, which he fanned on once. Many of Brouwer's PP goals were setups by ... Fabbri who the defense moved towards leaving Brouwer open in front. Whose to say Fabbri isn't going to make the next guy on his line just as effective?? It's not like he's made his linemates successful at every level or anything.
