Defense is gonna start to get shakey with both Roman and Cola out, hopefully Oystrick can hold his own and maybe chip in a goal.

Perron scores.
Defense looked shittier than I had expected (nice play by Brewer on that 3rd ATL goal...) and Oystrick only got an assist, but pretty close, I'd say.

I was ready to turn this game off after 2 as I started getting PTSD-style flashbacks of last season, but persevered. Unlike last season, my patience was rewarded! Great 3rd period, you could kinda feel the tide turning in the 2nd despite all the (Franking) penalties. I normally think penalties shake themselves out, but these refs were just TERRIBLE.

Good thing Boyes can still score on the shootout, he'll have SOME trade value when we're finally ready to dump his lackadaisical ass.

5-0-0 at home, how about THAT!

Mediocre effort from the Blues. Won't cut it against the Western Conference but is clearly enough to beat them some cake eaters from out east. JayMac had a hell of a game. Pie was good. * and ' were good. Boyes and AMac need to get going if this team is to sustain the current winning streak. Good teams (and shitty refs) will be able to shut us down if we can't roll 3 credible scoring lines.

I thought it was funny how McClement's second goal was announced as his first goal of the season by Scottrade. I think that's why there was a delay in hats being thrown to the ice; no one knew what the hell was going on.

* was good, and ' has been AWESOME. That guy is great. My girlfriend was at the game with me and she kept calling him, "the hot one." Every time he was on the ice she would go, "Its the hot one!!"

Anyone wanna give some insight on the Backes kneeing penalty. I was sitting kinda high up and they didn't show a replay. Did he actually knee him or was it another BS call?

Backes didn't deliberately "knee" him. He was falling over and his knee stuck out a bit. It was a bad call (among a LOT of bad calls last night). I can't remember such a one-way bad call game against the HOME team (and I've been watching The NHL since 1951)!
Luckily, The Blues are once again a GOOD team, and can withstand such badly-called games. As the NHL finally realises how good The Blues are (after another 10-20 games, the refs will start giving them more respect.

I wish it worked that way, but the Blues will get screwed on calls at home until they actually lose a home game, so the league can preserve their precious parity.

Okay. Who predicted a McClement hat-trick??? That was f'in amazing!!!!

Blues needed that one, as the next 3 opponents are tough, yeah even the Rangers. Henrik can put up a donut just as easily as the next guy.

If they were to win all their games in hand on the entire league, we're looking at best record in the NHL. Not a bad position to be in.

The Blues sure did look awful in that 1st period and then the refs did everything to keep them down from there. I'm not saying the refs had it in for the Blues, but there were some AWFUL calls. I was sitting up high but that Jackman 'interference' call? Was that as crappy as I thought I saw last night? To me it looked like the puck was rimmed around the board and he hit his man as the puck passed by them. I could be wrong but that was just ridiculous.

Pretty impressive "REFS, YOU SUCK!" chant a few times last night.

I've been complimentary of Brewer and he settled down after the first, but that was one of the worst defensive plays I've seen in awhile when he fanned on the puck and let Bergfors (I think) score. It was an impressive shot, and I know the puck was bouncing, but wow, with 2.7 seconds left, you've gotta do better than that. Luckily, he tightened back up after that.

I knew Atlanta had a good offensive club, but I was really surprised how easily they skated around our D to get to the net. If I recall, EJ got walked around 2-3 separate times. Maybe it was by design, but ATL has legit speed and offensive prowess.

It was the first hat trick I've seen in person! Like someone already mentioned above, Mr. Calhoun announced Jay's 2nd goal as his first and didn't correct it. As soon as he scored his 3rd, only a few hats came on the ice. It wasn't until a stoppage of play that they announced he had a hat trick (after the original call, 'Jay McClement, his 3rd of the night!') that the hats started coming on the ice.

I was surprised that they didn't even acknowledge Mason in any way on the jumbotron. I was hoping they would do it early on, because I knew if it was a close game they probably wouldn't do it. Oh well, I'm a sucker for sentimental moments like that so was hoping to give him a standing O, but oh well.

One last thing....Suck it, Byfuglien!

Yes, the call on Jackman was terrible. He did what every defenseman does in that situation, and he did it legally.
Awful call.
Pretty impressive "REFS, YOU SUCK!" chant a few times last night.
The reffing was terrible. I can't remember the last time it was that bad against one team and where the calls didn't even out.
Brewer has been better this year, I'll give him that, but he had to give us one of those horrible plays last night to remind us who he is.
Man that was bad. Short of just falling down, you can't make a worse play.

And to be brutally honeset, I don't think Brewer has been as good as some people like to think. Don't get me wrong, he's been better, but he's made a lot of minor mistakes that haven't really hurt us, so they go unnoticed. Most of his gaffes are stickhandling mistakes...little flubs of the puck here and there...many more than you see other defensemen make, and certainly not players of Captain material. But it hasn't cost us that much yet this year...I'm just waiting for the other shoe to fall with him. Here's hoping it doesn't.
I knew Atlanta had a good offensive club, but I was really surprised how easily they skated around our D to get to the net. If I recall, EJ got walked around 2-3 separate times. Maybe it was by design, but ATL has legit speed and offensive prowess.
Atlanta is a much improved club. Trading Kovy and having a nice offseason with free agents (they can thank Chicago for that) has helped them a lot.
Yeah, you'd think they would have at least put him on the jumbotron so fans could cheer him if they wanted.
No biggie though.
One last thing....Suck it, Byfuglien!
Yup. What is it about him that makes me hate him so much? I guess it's the former Hawk factor.

I've seen a handful of hat tricks in person. The most memorable for me was when I was in the stands when Brett Hull broke the NHL goals scored record for a right winger. I still have the painter's hat from that night. Remember those? They use to give them out after hat tricks when you left The Arena. I think it was goal #56 on the season, or something like that.

I also saw Geoff Courtnall log 3 against the Islanders. I believe they were his 2nd, 3rd and 4th goals respectively on the season.
