Kariya may no longer be reliable or useful in the NHL, but that's a step up from what Oshie is right now. You can't skate on a broken ankle with shredded ligaments.

I think they could get him at a bargain basement price for the rest of the season.

No joke. Why the Kariya talk all of the sudden?

Maybe we can get Tkachuk out of retirement too?

I'd have no problem bringing back Kariya for cheap for the 2nd or 3rd line...but he's already said he's DONE FOR THE YEAR because of post concussion syndrome. So I'm not sure why anyone would think he's available this season, much less right now.

And the only reason Blues fans may be sour on him is because he didn't live up to his bloated contract. If he had made $3 million a year with us he'd have been fine. $7 million was waaaay too much for a guy who was a few years past his prime and quite visibly on the decline.

Kariya didn't say he was sitting out the season because teams were refusing to over pay for him, he has concussion troubles.

You know what? Pro-rated 1 year contract, maybe get a little bit of offense? I say why the hell not?
absolutely...I don't understand why everyone on this forum just despises Kariya...
The Blues paid 18 million for 123 points over 3 years. Less than half (58) of those came in the last two years.

$146,341.46 per point is not a good deal. He is small, and he's lost a step or three.

He is no longer reliable or useful in the NHL.
He got Hip surgery on both his hips and he is as fast as ever with a great point shot and good vision and aggressive.....

That whole concussion thing aside, I wouldn't be opposed to a 2 million prorated one year contract for Kariya. With all the people falling in and out of the lineup, we could use a little boost of speed and energy out there.

What Paul Kariya are you watching, the 1998 Mighty Ducks of Anaheim version or one more in line with reality?

1. He got hip surgery on both his hips - I cannot contest this, other than to point out that the necessity of hip surgery at his age should tell you something.

2. He is fast as ever - No, he is not. He was regularly run down by defensemen last year, and he would always stop and turn around, often giving the puck away in the process. Sometimes he'd lob a dainty Eric Brewer-esque wrist shot toward the goal. We can get Porter to do that, you know.

3. With a great point shot - See above. Eric Weinrich had a better shot than PK.

4. And good vision - Vision doesn't do much when you can't actually perform. A bald eagle has great vision, but doesn't do anything for the 2010 Blues.

5. And aggressive..... - I assume your ellipses indicate that you had a thought you wanted to finish. I'm going to go with "aggressive....... as Helen Keller."

He's washed up. Next.

While Kariya may not be "as fast as ever", he's still fast. He was our fastest skater last year...and I don't remember him getting regularly run down by defensemen. And he has a hard wrist shot, but the problem is he didn't put it in the net as much as we were paying him to.
He's washed up. Next.
He's washed up as a 1st liner...but he could still contribute on the 2nd or 3rd line.
Just because he's not a 40 goal scorer anymore, doesn't mean he's washed up. I'm sure a number of teams would love to have him to add some scoring depth.

Assuming he doesn't have any concussion relapses, he could probably score 15-20 goals somewhere.

at this point in time, we don't need scoring depth, we need scoring... period. Whoever can provide it, I won't bitch about them being on the team for the remainder of the year.

Well why not just waive your magic wand over Perron and make his concussion problems go away too....

Dude I know you think you're hilarious, but that was a stupid (Franking) post. I prefaced what I said (and you included it in your quote) "That whole concussion thing aside," as in "Assuming the concussion symptoms are no longer an issue."

I wouldn't open with it.

Well, putting the whole age and knees thing aside, I think we should sign Bobby Orr in his prime.

Seriously. Not to hijack our despair about Oshie's ankle, but for once I would like to hear a legitimate explanation for this one other than "he is not the right type of player for the organization at this point in time."

We're hurting on the depth chart, we're obviously not scoring enough (amongst other things) and the guy is going to cost us... what? One year deal around the $1 million mark if that?

I think this is a signing the management thinks will send out the message that we've hit the panic button. We have gone in a new direction, aka, not the plug and chug aging former all stars on the decline and cross our fingers approach. This team is hand made, hand picked and playing very well. Yeah we hit a five game skid, it happens. Our scoring has picked it up, albeit against eastern conference teams of late but its turning the corner. You can not expect a team to lose 5 core members and not drop a few games here and there. I'd much rather weather this storm and test our depth that we will need in the playoffs. Come the trade deadline and were pushing for a better seed I am all for adding a guy like Satan to strengthen us, but if you do it right now, you may as well tell the locker room you have no faith in them.
