Re: 2011 NHL Draft

Post by cprice12 »

How anyone can be upset or happy with the Blues draft picks right now is beyond me.

After the first half-dozen picks or so, it was a complete crap shoot...a very, very weak draft this year. Armstrong said last week, before the draft, that the first half dozen or so players are quality players, but after that, there are 40-50 players that are at about the same level...nobody is head and shoulders above anyone else.

Five years from now, the best player in this year's draft could easily come out of the 2nd or 3rd round.

Why throw away picks and trade up into the later first round if you can get the same level of player, and more of them, by keeping your picks?

And who is going to trade a player to us off of an NHL roster that could actually help us right now, for a couple 2nd round picks in a very weak draft? And to get something of value, we'd have to give up something of value off the roster in a package deal, and I'd like to see the core of this team stay together for at least a couple more years to see if they can put it together.

The only player I would have liked to have seen be moved with a pick or two would have been Jackman. But I doubt he's valued to high by other clubs and the return just wasn't there. Some have said moving Carlo would have been nice, but I disagree...I'm a fan of his and what he brings to the club.

Anyway... I'll let you know in three/four years what I think of this draft.

I'm not arguing that. The fact is that THEY WANTED TO....that's what I'm talking about.

I'm not going to sit here and pretend for a second that any of us can evaluate these picks. The NHL draft is second only to MLB in it's irrelevance.

I said they FAILED because during the draft they tried and tried to trade up and they didn't. I didn't say I would have traded, I didn't say I would pick someone else. I said THEY WANTED SOMEONE ELSE AND DIDN'T GET HIM. No matter how YOU feel about the situation, they did not get who they wanted and settled for something else....I don't know how you call that a success, or with hold judgment. I assure you that no matter what they say publicly, they were very disappointed when they went to bed Friday night.
