I heard from a friend we signed him for a year at 600k. I couldn't find anything on here about it either. why give him another chance?

this is an incredibly confusing move. I guess you can never have too much goaltending...

I don't see the harm in getting him in the minor league system. When his game was on he was a good goalie.

Hannu backstopped this team to the conference finals for the first time in well over a decade?

wow I didn't know Turek had some fans around here. Turek was as streaky as they come. Toivenen is the same way. I remember when Turek let up a bad goal, the camera would zoom in on him, and you could see the fear in his eyes through his mask. I see the same in Toivenen.

Well, the only thing I don't like about this is it pushes Chris Holt back to Alaska (I guess). Ecklund said that Toivonen and Bishop will hold down the fort in Peoria.

Sounds like Holt will get more starts then.

Less quality starts, though. The man-crush on Bishop drives me nuts sometimes.

Where's Jake Allen in all of this? He's not signed yet, right?

And the love for Holt who has never done anything at the top level and couldn't get a start in 40 plus games on the bench is equally bizarre.

And Bishop's done what at the top level? My only basis for this arguement is that Holt has put up good numbers in Alaska and Peoria (which Bishop has not done), only to have Bishop to be the "go to" guy. I don't have a man-crush on Holt; I just want it to be proved that Bishop should be at the higher level. Also, I'm pretty sure Bishop couldn't get a start while sitting on the bench for quite a few games, either.

Bishop would have had a SO in his first career start if not for injury. I'd say that's doing something.

That's your argument??

I agree, that is a step in the right direction. What is there to say that Holt wouldn't have done the same, not been injured, and got the SO? I'm not trying to discredit Bishop. I'm more curious why he has had more opportunities than Holt to prove himself. Is it because we drafted him? Is it because he's 17' tall?

Toivonen has NHL-caliber ability, he just didn't have the positioning down. I think a solid year of starts in the AHL with solid coaching would do him a lot of good. I'm not sure why they decided to go this route given the number of young goalies in the system that need playing time though.

Brent Johnson had 3 consecutive shutouts in the playoffs. Did you want him to stay our starting goalie?

Seriously, come talk to me when he posts above a .897 save percentage and a below average GAA in the AHL. Otherwise, he's just a crappy AHL goalie like Schwarz

Can you guys follow one post to the next without quoting? He asked me what had Bishop done in the NHL. I told him. The end.
