Sakic hanging 'em up.

Good move for him. One of my idols growing up. Class act player, two cup rings, has done just about all you can reasonably expect to do in the NHL. It would have been crushing for him to switch franchises this late in his career and staying with a rebuilding team makes no sense. Will be a sight to see the #19 raised to the rafters.

That has to be one of the toughest pills to swallow. To play that long and have to call it quits. He was one of the best players ever. I used to love watching him play.

I wish his final season had been better, but at least he didn't make several failed comeback attempts like Forsberg. Always a classy guy and a great player.

The Avs roster is looking pretty sad these days and enthusiasm is down around town. I hope this translates into cheaper scalped tickets for me for the next few years. 8)

While I was never an Avs fan I was secretly a fan of him and Roy.

To me Sakic was like Yzerman to me. You hated playing against him, but in the you have to respect the man a little. He will probably be coaching them in a season or 2 since Roy turned it down.
