Jeremy Rutherford called in to report that Roman Polak signed a two-year contract extension for $2.2 million today.

Polak, 23, will make $1 million in 2009-10 and $1.2 million in 2010-11.

A sixth-round pick of the Blues in 2004, Polak has played parts of three seasons with the team.

He played in a career-high 69 games in 2008-09 and averaged 21 minutes, 32 seconds of ice time, which ranked third on the team. He finished with one goal, 14 assists and a minus-15 plus-minus rating.

Jeremy Rutherford will be here soon with more information.

That doesn't sound bad to me at all.

Not bad at all. This is what I expected him to get paid.

Probably shouldn't have taken that long, but so be it. I'm pretty happy with this roster if this is what we're going to war with this year.

How does this affect his UFA eligibility?

My guess is that Polak and his agent overvalued themselves and then when no offer sheets came, it was hard to bring their demands down right away. Again, just a guess, but that's what I gathered from all of the quotes from JD.

He'll get his payday. He looks to have a nice long career and he'll eventually get the big bucks. He just needs to wait a little longer.

I'm glad to see him back with us and keep some solid D-men on the blue line.

It must suck to be 23 and only make $1 million. That's over 7 months of work to boot!

All kidding aside, I'm happy for him and glad he'll be back in the note.

Is he better than Barron ? They seem like the same kind of player to me.

Murray Baron?

Baron was a serviceable guy who had some decent years here...but I think Polak has a lot more potential than Baron did.

Polak > Baron

That clip was kinda cool...Janney, Emerson, Shanahan...Boatmen's Bank logo on the ice...good times. Must have been '91 or '92-ish.

Polack has a ways to go to be as good as Baron, but should get there and then some. But not a lot better.

Am I the only one who thinks the $ amount is a little high? Granted, living in west TX, I don't get to watch many games, but it seems a little early to crack the million dollar mark for a guy who's spent only 1 full season with the big club.

I'm glad to hear that they finally reached an agreement. I'm definitely counting down the days until the season starts.

It's a tad high, but I believe he will be playing in the pro's from now on.

Brewer is making 4 million and Jackman is making 3.5 million.. I think 1.2 million for Polak is pretty good, he was our best defenseman for most of the season last year.

Sure, 1.2 mil is cheap when compared to Brewer and Jackman, but that's kind of my point. I think it's safe to say we've overpaid some defensemen in the past (Brewer, Jackman, McKee), and I'm surprised the organ-i-zation wants to start down the same path again so soon.

1 mil this year, 1.2 mil next year, but what happens after that? 3 mil? 3.5 mil?
