D.J. and Cam

Any reason why we need both?

If not, which one gets traded away?

Absolutely no reason for both, but I believe management loves King and the fans love Cam.

The Blues are quick to point out that they are not the same player, and they are right.

King is a heavy weight, and Cam is a fun side show. Neither are ‘players’ and my guess is King wins out and is the last man standing on the roster at some point this year.

Cam really is a great guy and a local boy, but we are passed the point of simply trying to sell tickets, we are now contenders and it is time to put the best possible team on the ice.

It's been a while since I've seen DJ play, but I believe I'd still rather have Cam. Yes, DJ is one of the premiere fighters in the league, but he just doesn't play the agitator role like Cam. Cam has more hockey skill, I think. Also, he'll fight anyone. It seems as though Murray isn't going to play an enforcer unless we're playing a team with a similar guy. As in the two games agains Detroit, we didn't need an enforcer. I'd look for management to stick to a plan like that. If someone wants to fight, we have Crombeen and Winchester (if no enforcer is in the line up).
I love hockey. Period.

Cam is slightly more versatile.
He can skate and he loves to hit...and he's a good fighter, maybe not as good as King, but the intangibles give Cam the edge.
The only time King fires up the crowd is when he fights. Cam fires up the crowd just by being on the ice.

I agree. King is definitely the better fighter, but how important is that in today's NHL? I don't think the fear of fighting King really prevents guys from going after our star players anymore. Cam will fight anybody (even though he can't hang with the top heavyweights like King can), plus he provides more hitting, agitation, and crowd response. I give the edge to Cam too.

Besides, how can you cut our new shootout specialist??

Although, the 90s Blues fan in me would love to see Cam and King on a line together destroying people, I don't know that it would give us the best chance to win. That would be loads of fun to watch though.

Heavyweights are all but useless in this day and age. The only people they ever fight are the other teams fighters and what's the point in that? It's not like all of the other team's players play the game any differently because a guy like King is in the lineup. The only person who cares is the other teams goon who knows that they have to fight at some point. It's a stupid song and dance.

I love watching a real fight, between players who aren't fighters, but the whole "team goon" thing is an idea whose time has passed.

For that reason I'll take Cam, because he brings a little more. At least he annoys the other team. He's also an entertaining fighter... and that's all that really matters. It doesn't matter who wins the fight, just that the fight occurred.
