Conklin or Mason

Post by Kohl »

Short and Sweet.

List your choice, of who you would start in the upcoming game against the Pens.

Mason or Conklin

Personally I would start Conks, would love to see how he would perform on a tough team coming off a shutout.

I gotta go Mason. I understand that Conks had a great game, but Mason is our starter. I think putting him on the bench against the Cup Champs would be a mistake. Its not like Mason has played bad anyway. The team in front of him has.

I think you go with Conklin coming off of a shutout and having seen the Penguins more than Mason last season. But if the team plays like they did the other night it really wont matter who is in goal.

Back to Mason. even in the games we lost he played great. He's the starter. It's that simple.

Are we seriously debating this? Mason is the #1 goalie, first and foremost. Conklin was signed purely as a back up. He'll play every so often in order to give Mason rest, especially on those brutal back to back games. The situation is different from last year when Mason was brought in as insurance for the questionable health of Legace.

But I mean if it gives you guys something to do, debate away...

Conklin had a great game, but it's not like he played out of his mind or anything and stole the game. He's not that hot of a hand.

Mason is your #1, so you go with him. No question.
Yeah, Conklin had a nice game the other night, but he wasn't tested that often. It was a team shutout.

With that said, if Conklin does get the start, I won't be too disappointed. He's played well this year in his two games.

No question, Mason. He's out #1. One shutout doesn't change that. But this is a nice thing to have, where you feel confident going with either goalie against any opponent, including the defending champs with two of the best offensive players in the game.

A lot has been made about Conklin having seen Pit a lot the last two years, but I think what realy complicates it is teh back to backs Friday and Saturday in which they would each probbaly get a start. Mason is your #1 and there is no way you sit him three out of four games.

I agree with the majority of people in this thread. Mason will be back in goal. He's played well, and there's no reason he doesn't start. Shutout or no shutout. We do have an awesome goaltender tandem this year, though. :letsgoblues:

This is exactly the reason Mason starts tonight.

Mason. Conklin played a solid game and stole some goals, but let's not get too excited: these aren't the Ducks of yore, at least not right now. They played a terrible game and had only a few legit chances. He played well, but he didn't exactly shut out the Penguins or the Capitals.

Mason has been solid. If we can play the way we played against the Ducks, he'll rack up the shutouts real quick too.

Yeah I never really took in consideration how well the ducks played, I guess it was a team shutout overall..And I wouldnt want to upset Mason by sitting him out 3 of 4 games either..so yeah, i guess i would go with Mason afterall.

Thanks guys. :letsgoblues:

A goalie isn't a number one goalie purely for the sake of being number one. The Blues got themselves into trouble with that mentality with Johnson "The goalie of the future" for the Blues. Mason hasn't been playing bad by any stretch so he's going to start. But I wouldn't rule Conklin out so quickly just because Mason is the "number 1 goalie"
