Am I the only one who thinks this thing looks horrendous?

i was kind of thinking the same thing when i saw it earlier today. but from what i read the sculpter took pictures of Mac to make it... is this what it really looks like at the top of his slapshot? I don't really think i have seen a still shot like this before.
maybe it would have been better with a stick bending on the ice type of shot?
like this maybe?
Image
maybe not the same face though

No, the thing is off. I think it mostly has to do with Al's stance. This is his MacFarlane toy, obviously not a pic but it's much closer to what he looked like taking a slapshot. Notice he's not flat-footed on the ice, and his legs are much further apart than in the statue.

Not sure what it is with St. Louis and poor statues of our sports icons. Hopefully they get Pujols right at least.

He looks very stiff.

It appears he's prairie dogging while taking a shot.

That's why Walt wears Depends.

I think the statue looks fine in person. I'm not a fan of the look of the material they are making these statues out off, but I think the end result is fine.

I wonder if all the MacInnis felating that goes on in this town gets Pronger's panties in a bunch. I mean, they were here for the exact same amount of time, and had about the same amount of success... yet Big Mac is a hero and Pronger is a goat.

Not to anyone who actually watched hockey.

The 'masses' came out against him because of what we gave up to get him and the weak minded followed like lemmings, and many still regurgitate their unfounded mantra still today.

I grew tired of trying to defend Pronger long ago.

What really….really…pisses me off are Blues fans that love Jackman and bash Pronger.

Pause this video at 1:21 and it looks pretty similar to the statue. I think it looks odd because he's so fast that you don't see him in that position for more than a split second.

It's better than the Musial statue.

I was growing tired of Pronger acting like a little bitch in the playoffs long before he got traded. Taking bad penalties and then acting like a 3 year old sent to time out doesn't usually win championships. After he was traded he got some of this worked out and learned a great deal. Notice he's not "the guy" anymore and he seems to handle it much better.

But the new MacInnis statue looks terrible imo.

Old videos of Brett Hull make me miss him too...but that doesn't mean he'd be any good now.
Hull declined as he got older...so did Wilson.

Quite frankly, if they can’t bring back Wilson (which I know won’t happen), I wish they would promote Kerber to TV once Kelly’s contract expires. Say what you want about Kerber, but I would prefer his heartfelt enthusiasm and excitement for the Blues over Kelly’s feigned and awkward emotional calls.

I think there is a reason why some highlight collages feature more and more of Kerber’s calls.

I would love for both Kerber and Chase to be promoted, but Pang may make that a problem. Dump Bernie from down on the ice and put Chase down there. He was great there for the radio broadcasts before they put Bernie there.

On the statue, the butt end of the stick protrudes beyond MacInnis' glove as if he choked up on the end.

In real life, MacInnis appears to use his left glove hand to grasp the butt end, rather than to choke up.

No statue can be 100 percent accurate, but that detail is jarring to me. Did Mac not notice or care?

Bingo.

I've always felt that if you retire Mac's number you should retire Pronger's.

I've been beginning to wonder if the demotion of Federko is a step towards removing John Kelly as well. With being Mr. Blue as Bernie is, it was a shocker to me that he was removed from his position....even though he was atrociously bad at it....perhaps JD being a former broadcaster facilitated this?

I hated John Kelly in the 90's and I hate John Kelly now.

I haven't seen the statue in the flesh, yet. It doesn't make a good impression from the few pictures I've seen. The legs look too close together and skinny; his pants look ridiculously tight. I can't stop staring at them

When I heard a statue was in the works, I pictured his stick being at the point of contact, or in the follow-through. After looking at some pics of Al, the expression on his face in the act might be why this pose was chosen.

I know it's not a Blues pic, but this would have been rad.

Oh, and on the topic of announcers, I am always surprised by how it can ruin the game for some people.

I will agree that Kelly can sound and look awkward, and this happens pretty regularly, but he doesn't bother me much. I just don't notice the play call too much unless it's extremely biased or stupid (Columbus' team comes to mind).

The "thank you" bit doesn't bother me too much, either. On the other hand, "holy jumpin'" sounds forced and retarded every time.
