ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that defenseman Eric Brewer will be sidelined two to four weeks with a back injury suffered on Nov. 25 at Dallas. The injury is unrelated to the previous back injury that required surgery. Brewer was examined by Dr. Robert Watkins in Los Angeles this morning.

I have no clue how to respond to this, so I'll just be a post whore.

On second thought:
- maybe a better shot for Pietrangelo to stick around after the WJC?
- and maybe the team will go on a tear like last season when Brewer was out?

I can hope, right? I mean, I'm a Blues fan... that's all I really have left.

I like how Davidson makes it clear it is "unrelated" to his previous injury. I would be surprised, and oddly disappointed if he is actually back in a month.

Jeez if that's the case then his back is a big cluster-(Frank) of problems.

So who takes his place? A lamppost with a hockey stick taped on the side?

I hear we have this guy named Alex Pietrangelo on the team. Maybe he's ok at defense. He's probably better at warming the bench and getting no ice time at any level though. :?

Clearly, Brewer is hurt from having to carry the team on his back. Leave the man alone already.

The only thing I could think of that would possibly be unrelated to a gimpy back that kept him out for like a year and two surgeries would be backne.

Brewer out 2-4 weeks with a bad case of backne.

The Blues are 4-5-3 with Brewer in the lineup. 9-6-2 without him. Last season they were 12-13-3 with him and 29-18-7 without. Which breaks down like this:
Last Season with Brewer: .91ppg
Last Season w/o Brewer: 1.20ppg
This Season with Brewer: .96ppg
This Season w/o Brewer: 1.17

I generally would say that one player's affect on a team isn't enough to make that big of a swing. But Brewer does play 20+ minutes a night, a significant amount, and is a -22 in 40 games over the last 2 seasons. Considering that 3 of the 4 wins that the Blues have had since Brewer's injury have been by one goal, I'm not positive that his absence hasn't played a part in helping the Blues win.

If the numbers were reversed (greater ppg with than without) he'd be making a serious case to be the team captain.

Oh. Wait.
