One of the two teams playing tonight will win by two goals, and there will be 6 goals scored total.

What has gotten into Penner this season? He has 10 more goals than anybody else on the Oilers, and he is on pace to double his shot total from last season.

The Blues are vastly overrated
This is from an Oilers thread..http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=713105&page=2

It's difficult to imagine how a team that is 13th in the Western Conference and last in the entire NHL in goals scored can be "vastly overrated."

Maybe they meant the hype going into the season...which is an easy thing to say NOW.

The Blues need to do two things...

1) Sign a top 10 goal scorer in the off season if one is available
2) Fire Murray

The team, as it is right now, may fight their way back into the playoffs, and I think they will if the goaltending holds up...but the lack of offense and the horrendous power play is concerning with the amount of raw talent this team has. The coach usually gets the blame when stuff like that happens.

- You'd think that would have to turn around sooner or later.

- Edmonton is overrated.

A win tonight and...
- We pass Edmonton in the standings
- We move into 11th and tie Detroit in the standings if they lose to Anaheim tonight.
- We'll be 2 pts. out of a playoff spot if Dallas loses in San Jose tonight.

Anaheim is last overall in the West...who would have thought that? I guess they are seeing what "life after Pronger" is like...same thing happened to us.

Other games of interest tonight:
Anaheim: 11-13-6 (Road: 2-5-4) 6:30pm Central
@
Detroit: 14-11-5 (Home: 8-6-2) TV: RIS, FSPT
---------------
Dallas 13-8-9 (Road: 6-5-4) 9:00pm Central
@
San Jose 19-7-6 (Home: 8-2-4) TV: KDFI, CSCA

- Go Ahaheim...Go San Jose

The Blues are not going to fire Murray unless this team absolutely goes off the deep end, Carolina Hurricanes-style. Seriously. He was just extended through next year and there is no way this organ-EYE-zation is going to fire a guy and pay him through next year unless there absolutely needs to be a change.

Most of us may think a change is needed, but we're looking on the outside-in. As easy as it is for us to say "Fire Murray!" it's not so easy for the front office to do so and then deal with the aftermath of hiring a replacement and paying that person too. It's just not that easy. The team's record is 13-11-5, they've played well as of late in terms of putting up wins and points. I just don't see JD or Checketts or anyone that has any pull just showing up to work today and saying, "Hey, let's fire Skeletor."

I'm not a Murray protector, not even close. All I know is that he was nominated for the Jack Adams 6 months ago and was credited for the teams resurgence in the second half, whether that was true or not. Now people are calling for his head, even after a win against Detroit. I'd be more than happy to see him go; I've always thought he was the right person to turn the ship around with his disciplined style, but never figured he'd be around to see the 'end' of the rebuilding era when the Blues are a yearly contender again.

That being said, I think all this talk about firing Murray is just a waste of time at this point; I cannot see JD pulling the trigger on such a move.

This was my fear last year and it all came to be. We snuck into the playoffs DISPITE Murray's coaching and it bought him leeway this season and I fear we may do the same again.

You want to ‘contend’ for the playoffs and save money….keep him (I think they will)

You want to get the most out of your Kids and be ligament Cup contenders in a couple years….can his azz now (they will not)

I was extremely vocal about not wanting to make the playoffs last year simply because I felt Murray would be retained and it would set the organization back years, and I was consistently accused of being nothing more than a Murray basher.

Man I wish I would have been the one that was wrong and they were right. :(

This team couldn’t score last year and even despite our unbelievable run in the second half last year we needed tons of help to make the playoffs.

We got lucky and Murray got to hang around…..so I ask…did we really get ‘lucky’.

Get ready for the same discussions this time next year if we make the playoffs again.

I'm most likely going to be absent too. I'll be watching the game on tape delay. Me being absent from flashchat means the Blues will probably win 21-0.

Does doing all these mental statistical gymnastics make you feel better about how shitty this team actually is, Curt?

This team is going nowhere with Murray. Anybody who keeps playing Brewer and Jackman over and over, but gives Perron 11 minutes of ice time is pretty much just a moron.

Home game = loss. I'm probably going to have it on in the background while I work, I notice that if I have something else to do, the misery on the ice gets to me less.

Well, I think it's pretty clear that was the problem then.

I wasn't caught up in the fire Murray hype until this. Andy Murray could easily have gotten U-verse and recorded up to four shows at once and avoided this entire problem.

That being said I'm basically neutral about Murray. I just think this team needs to score goals and I am not about to get involved in a lynch mob to go after the coach (who's job description does not include finding the back of the net).

So if anybody knows about an Andy Murray Neutral Game Day Thread, Let me know. I may just see you in flashchat. I may, on the other hand, NOT see you in flashchat since tonight is a Friday night.

(Probably Not Any) More to come....

I'll be holding down section 324 as usual and consuming plenty of adult beverages.

But we can catch Happy Pony on Doc’s phone, so it’s all good!

No. I just don't see the point of calculating out playoff outcomes at this point. Yeah, we might catch this team or that team, but unless we start getting consistent quality out of this team, it'll continue to be shitty. Honestly, I haven't even enjoyed watching the last few wins. MAYBE the SJ game because we were underdogs by a longshot.
