Just confused. I understood the reason FSN couldn't televise the Brett Hull night on 12/15 was some kind of no compete clause with Versus. Why, then, were they able to show the game this past Tuesday, 12/29. Versus had a game on then, too.

I don't think that was the case, since I was able to watch that game on the Calgary feed on center ice...so it was able to be broadcast...but then again, the Calgary feed was a pay per view in Calgary, but not here in the USA...not sure how that works. FSN may just not have been televising that game.
I could be wrong about that though.
