Brewer has really stepped up his game...

Post by xbleed83bluex »

The "Brewer sucks" jokes are somehow becoming less meaningful because, surprisingly, he's actually playing well. Where was this Brewer a couple months back? He's scoring goals, blocking shots, getting shots from the point, sticking up for his teammates... he's actually....dare I say it...leading his team.... who would have thought? If he keeps playing like this, I really don't see a problem with keeping him.

Ya but hes still leaving his defensive partner high and dry on breakouts, whats the point of being a defense man if your not going to play defense?

I'm not just jumping on the Bash Brewer Bandwagon, but he still isn't top defenseman quality. He is blowing defensive assignments just as much as he used to and not winning puck battles in the corners.

Having said that though, the other aspects of his game have been better. He has been shooting more, which is something that he needs to do. God knows the man can't pass.

I have to agree Brewer is sucking as bad as he did early in the season. I only hope he can continue so we get his trade value up.

He's certainly playing better.....perhaps this will helps his trade value.

Of course don’t get your hopes up on that, I believe somewhere near half the teams in the league are with-in 2 mill of the cap so they’d have a lot of trouble taking on his contract.

So if he’s here for the long hall, here’s hoping he keeps improving.

And when Versteeg scored on that 2 on 1, guess what defenseman for the Blues was skating to get back after leaving his partner high and dry?

You guessed it. That play still burned me. Granted a forward should've gotten back but still.

My issue with teh Brewer is that he has been granted a status on this team and with the organ-eye-zation that IMO he has not earned. The way he has played this year, he's good for a #3-5 d-man at best. not captain. not highly compensated.

His pay is a joke. Now I understand, he's done his laps around the NHL and knows how to play the game and gives the Blues a great veteran presence on the blueline. It's a shame he doesn't always play that way. But what else is new, guys being paid more than they're worth. That was a hell of a shot last night though, he got his weight under it and really put a good shot on net.

I think it is both Brewer and Berglund's fault. Berglund was skating back to the point with the puck. Brewer has to go somewhere, and typically, that would mean down low (Berglund becomes the 2nd defenseman). The problem was, Berglund had 2 guys on him and wasn't able to get the puck in deep. Brewer should've recognized that and started to retreat in case Berglund lost the puck. Well, Berglund lost the puck. Both Brewer and Berglund need to be smarter in that situation. Hopefully a little structure and an actual system (seeing they played pretty systemless all night) can help with that.
I love hockey. Period.
