Give them some substantial ice time and see what they give you. See if the team WINS. Who cares if they score a ton of goals.... are we WINNING?

And glen, I would have called you out had I seen your post before the game. Winchester and BJ are two of my favorite players on this team. I'd put them on a line with Backes centering and watching the other team piss their pants.
I don't care who dresses or who plays with who...as long as we win.
With that said though, anyone can go out there and "care". Anyone can go out there and play their ass off. That's all well and good that they try hard, but are we winning?

Like everyone else, I'd prefer our guys with goal scoring abilities played with as much passion as the Crombeens and Winchesters on this team do. Oshie, Perron and McDonald are three exceptions. Those guys always look like they're hustling on every shift. It's Boyes, Berglund, Kariya, and sometimes Backes that make you scratch your head. Some shifts they look like they're skating their asses off and other times they look like they're coasting and shying away from traffic.

I dunno.

This was a good win, and I'd like to say this is the start of a slow turnaround under Coach Payne because for the most part the Blues have played well under him, but they haven't gotten the wins. But we'll see. They'll have to win like 9 of the next 10 just to get within field goal range of a playoff spot...but they've shown no signs that they are capable of going on that type of run. Something has to change in the way this team handles the 3rd period, because we suck horribly in the 3rd period and have lost more than half of the games when we have a lead going into the 3rd. That's awful.

I think it's mental now. There are all out there thinking 'don't blow it' instead of just playing and doing what they did in the first two periods.

There are probably three keys to stopping this..

#1 – Get some wins. Nothing rebuilds confidence like a few ‘Ws”

#2 – Better goaltending. I’m not blaming losses on the goaltending, Be if you get a guy standing on his head, it will go a long way to straightening out their heads.

#3 – Don’t skate Brad Boyes in the third. Not only is he incapable of hitting the net, but he’s been ‘following’ the goal scorer on each of the last two game winners against us.

No they can't. You just said some players coast. At that point they aren't "caring." That's what I mean by that.

I see BJ and Brad willing to do the dirty work and getting enthusiastic about winning. I'm not saying they are the only ones, but I say more of them and less of Kariya and Boyes and see what happens.
