SUTTER FURIOUS AT LASER POINTER WIELDING CANUCKS FAN
VANCOUVER -- Calgary coach Brent Sutter was crying foul at Canucks fans after the Flames beat Vancouver in a shootout Saturday night.

Sutter said someone in the sellout crowd of 18,810 at General Motors Place was directing a laser pointer at goaltender Miikka Kiprusoff throughout the game in an effort to distract him.

"It was going on all night," said Sutter. "It was brought to the attention of the refs and security, and it's hard to believe that can go on for 60 minutes in a hockey game and it's not located and not found."

A laser pointer, used frequently as a teaching and presentation tool, flashes a red beam of light at a target to highlight it. The effort was not especially helpful, because the Canucks were outshot 40-21.

Kiprusoff managed to make one more save than Vancouver counterpart Roberto Luongo in the shootout as the Flames moved into sole possession of first in the Northwest, a point ahead of the Canucks.

"It was a distraction to our goaltender and security did mention they were trying to locate it, but I heard after the game it was spotted on TV where it was at," said Sutter. "So it's too bad it went 60 minutes of a hockey game and never was rectified."

Kiprusoff, who received medical treatment after the game, was not immediately available for comment.

Not cool. For one, it's cheating (not that the Canucks were trying to cheat as a team), and two, it's dangerous to someone's eyesight.

This thing happens a lot to pilots as they approach airfields- some kids (or whoever) on the ground shine a laser pointer into the cockpit window as the aircraft is on approach. Major security foul, not to mention dangerous.

You'd think the vancouver fans would know that the refs would have more to do with the outcome of the game than kipper?

Yeah, perfect time to pull this stunt, as one of your players is accusing refs of making calls against you.

I like how they say Vancouver is still looking for the person involved.

Maybe they should hire OJ to help out with that.

He'll never find the real killer, unless he's on a golf course.

I remember the same thing happening during the summer when the Cardinals were in Philly. A fan was shining a laser pointer at the Cardinals batters when they were at the plate. Very annoying, but also very difficult for security to find unless the referees decides to stop the game until the person comes forward which would get the person through peer pressure after a little while I'd imagine.

Well with that video feed, you can clearly see its coming from a person in the first three rows and maybe a section or two away from the penalty box. They could have found him if they wanted to.

The 'Nucks fans haven't blamed it on the Nazis yet? ;)

Seriously, the Canucks "not catching the guy" is a friggin' joke considering Toronto can review the video and pinpoint the guy from damn near the East Coast. Looks more to me like a home-town team protecting a home-town supporter.

[sarcasm]But that would never happen in Vancouver, where the Olympics are being held, right???? [/sarcasm]

Just in case someone doesn't get it like happened on another forum.
