The province of Quebec is a significant outpost in the hockey world. And as the Blues played the Canadiens in downtown Montreal on Wednesday, the hockey world remained abuzz with an incident involving Rouyn-Noranda Huskies center Patrice Cormier.

Captain of Team Canada in the recent IIHF world junior championships, Cormier came off the bench during overtime of a Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game between the Huskies and the Quebec Ramparts on Sunday, skated to center ice and caught Quebec defenseman Mikael Tam with an elbow to the head. Tam crumpled to the ice, unconscious and convulsing.

Tam was released from the hospital late Monday and returned to his home in Quebec City. It remains uncertain when or whether he will resume playing. The team plans to hold a news conference with the 18-year-old Tam on Friday.

Cormier was penalized and ejected from the game, although he argued with the on-ice officials before leaving. The 19-year-old was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the second round — the 54th player taken overall — in 2008. He still is awaiting word from the QMJHL on the disciplinary ramifications of his actions. Speculation is he might be suspended for the remainder of the season, as well as playoffs.

After the game, Quebec coach and former NHL star Patrick Roy reportedly filed a complaint with Quebec provincial police. A police investigation into the incident is said to be continuing. Over the past two years, at least two QMJHL players have been taken to court as a result of their actions in a game. Video of the heinous hit by Cormier is all over the internet and all over the Canadian press.

Uh that's some Tie Domi shit right there... I'm with Goon on the pussification of the league, but this piece of garbage needs to not be allowed to ever play in the NHL.

That has nothing to do with being tough & everything to do with being a pussy. What aa cheap shot.

After the BS his son pulled a while back I find that laughable.

FYI - this is the third incident with Cormier delivering an elbow to the head of an opponent. He did it twice during the WJCs. IMO, lifetime ban isn't long enough for this kind of ass-hattery.

Surprised he wasn't kicked out of the WJCs - and this ass-hat was the captain.

Throwing an elbow at a guy's head as the two are going off on a line change is ludicrous. Being it was the WJCs, there was zero chance of retaliation. It's a pussy move. In real hockey, the bench would've cleared and pummeled Cormier into little pieces of shit so he wouldn't keep being a big shit.

That's exactly right. And it's damn fun to watch!

and regarding the one hit... the guy who got hit put his head down about a foot, right into Cormier's elbow. Cormier had his elbow out like we was just going to nudge the guy in the shoulder, right after you see Cormier look at the last second and the guy was coming toward him. That one honestly just looked like a reflex.

The other one was pretty harmless.
