jprutherford Davis Payne should be announced as the permanent head coach in the next 48 hrs, a source tells me.

No surprise, but good to know.

That's the lazy way out. John Tortorella is about to become re-available and they're going to miss the boat again.

I like Payne and all, and I'm sure he can do wonders with the kids given a full camp and full season to do it, but Torts has teh

already.

Agreed. I have no qualms with Payne but it would be nice to see what we could get on the market. The Blues management over the past 13 years or so seem like they NEVER want to go without a coach; meaning, they can't just have a few weeks where we don't have a head coach, even over an off-season (Coach Q, then Kitchen, then Murray and now Payne). It would be nice if we just waited a few weeks and see what becomes available.

Regardless of the retarded thread title that I didn't even know what the hell it meant at first...

The club improved it's play under Payne and I think most agree that he is better suited for this team than Murray was.

Let's see what he can do after he has a full training camp under his belt.
Payne will be judged by me and many others on if he can put together a strong first half of the season. Murray wasn't ever able to get this team going over the first 40 games.

Nobody knows if he is truly the right guy for the job. It's just a wait and see type of deal.

The only problem I had with Payne was his overuse of Mason and Jackman, as long as neither of them are on the roster next year, I'm cool with this.

Many talked about how well the younger players responded to him, but I thought the way he cut some of Brewer's ice time and took him off the power play really resulted in better play (not 4.5 mill worth, but better), so it's obvious that he can help both veterans and young players.

Just make sure you don't go down this path too far if it doesn't work next year.

Plus I'm not convinced Tort is going to get released. He said some pretty strong words about his team yesterday and their playing... I've heard that he's almost as bad/as bad to play for as Mike Keenan was.
