Zach Parise

According to NHL rumors on ESPN, Parise may not re-sign with the Devils as they may not be able to afford both him and Kovalchuk. To me, he would be a better value than Kovalchuk. He had 38 goals and 44 assists in 2009-2010 season, and he is earning $5 mil. right now, so he would probably earn between that and what Kovalchuk is asking for. IMO, he is a much better all-around player though, who would not only add offense but also boost the penalty killing unit. He's only 25 but has already had playoff and Olympic experience.

Discuss. It's not like we have anything better to do right now. :)

I'd be so excited about the prospect of Parise coming to St. Louis, I'm glad to make mention of it as my 4000th post.

They don't have to resign him yet... I read he is under contract for this year for 5 mil, then RFA. Now, maybe they can't sign Kovalchuk with that contract on the books. If that's the case, say take any 2 of the following: Berglund, Eller, Perron, Pietroangelo,Cole, or this years #1.

I would definitely be more okay with him than Kovalchuk. For sure.

Only problem is you have to give up talent AND pay Parise, Kovalchuk you just have to pay. That is the trap Lar fell into with Weight and Tkachuck.

This discussion alone will cost the Blues a #1.
Someone had to say it.

Truth. Right now Gary Bettman is awarding New Jersey compensatory picks.

Having said that, getting another University of North Dakota alum on the roster gets a ++ from me.

I must have misunderstood. He's not a UFA?

According to this he isn't even a RFA for another year.

Most likely would trade him to free up some cap space so they can sign IK.

If I were Devils GM I'd lock up Parise before even talking to Kovalchuk. And if it's not possible to re-sign Kovalchuk at that point afterwards- oh well. Parise is sick, the Devils need to hang on to him at all costs.

It's the same as trading for someone and giving him big bucks or not giving up assets and signing a UFA. They can get a lot of assets for Parise and nothing for Kovalchuck. I do agree I'd prolly rather have Parise, though. They shoulda thought about that before trading for Kovy. Lou prolly did, and this is all a wasted talk.

No effin' way. have you seen that pansy's PIM totals? They're pathetic. he only has one career major and I bet it's for high sticking.

You're right, Goon. This team doesn't need no stinkin' guy who can score goals and put the puck on net regularly.

this team's problem is defense, consistency, and goaltending. fix those and you fix the team.

Well considering JD was on with Bernie on Monday and said, they can't and won't spend money. He clearly stated this team's additions will be Ellar, Petro, and Cole.

I'm not sure how they will replaces Walt's 13 goals, Paulie's 18 goals, and the additional 10 to 20 gaols we'll need to crack the top 12 in goals for.

Are those three (two being defensmen) going to score 40 - 50 goals. And hell, assuming one of them will also be replacing Carlo, throw in another 7 gaols and 32 points that need replacing.

Oh, while you're hoping Steen can duplicate a career year.
