Blues Fan Awards

Vote for

Team MVP
Best Forward
Best Defenseman
Unsung Hero
Biggest Surprise
Most Popular Player

Best Moment

---------------

My votes

Team MVP: I would have voted for the PK unit. (86.8%, first in NHL). That option was not available, so I went with Jay McClement as the team MVP this year.
Best Forward: David Backes, although I would have preferred to leave this blank.
Best Defenseman: Erik Johnson. Although I could justify Weaver/Polak for their PK.
Unsung Hero: Weaver
Biggest Surprise: Alex Steen
Most Popular: Perron
Best Moment: Winning 2 times in Sweden.

I had:

Team MVP -- Alex Steen
Best Forward -- Alex Steen
Best Defenseman -- EJ, but could have went with Weaver
Unsung Hero -- Weaver
Biggest Surprise -- Alex Steen
Most Popular Player -- TJ

Best Moment -- KT's final game

I went heavy on the Steen Machine, as you can tell.

I had the same picks except I picked Weaver for best D and Perron's making the Islanders look like complete idiots as the best moment. For me, anything that makes the Islanders look stupid is a winnar.

Although I could have gone with Walts last game as the best moment because the average age of the team just dropped 8 years and he might actually be replaced by someone who wasn't completely washed up.

Just so you know: you are faulting a former Blue- from the St. Louis Blues who have never won the cup with anyone- for not delivering a cup to St. Louis. Great standard.

And I disagree, now is a good time. I'm glad he stayed this year.

I wouldn't call Walt a great leader...nor did he do "amazing things" for this franchise.

What did we ever win with him in the lineup?

I like Tkachuk and all, but his number should never go up in the rafters in St. Louis.

At the risk of sounding "goon-like", the whole objective of playing on a sports team is to win the championship. As fans, we should expect and demand that of the players. If a player was not instrumental in bringing a championship to the team, why should they be rewarded with lavish praise?

Hey, I liked Walt. He did a lot of good things for the team, but it was time for him to go a year ago. And at the end of the day, just like everyone else who has worn the note, he didn't win the championship. In relatively recent history, Brett Hull and Al MacInnis get a free pass because they did so much for this organization that it trumps bringing a cup, but apart from a select few players through the years, the vast majority should not get a break in spite of failing to deliver.

So I'm the only one who has a problem with people calling Tkachuk washed up...who was the guy in practices controlling who the puck goes too in the warm up shots.....Tkachuk.....He's helped our young players get better so they can win a cup for Saint Louis...although yes he did play a year too long..I don't think he really hurt the team that much it's not like Brewer will teach these kids how to score 500 goals or more...

I think Tkachuk's number should indeed be retired. However, it should a retirement of shame, not honor. It should not be placed in the rafters but rather retired symbolically as a warning of how NOT to be while wearing the Blue Note.

:plusplus: agreed. Maybe they can get the jersey from the Chicago game where he lost his teeth and raise that to the rafters.

Being a good locker room guy only goes so far. If it doesn't translate to production on the ice...screw it.

If we do win a cup someday and one of the players expresses gratitude to Tkachuk for making him the player he is today, then fine...but until then, I think Tkachuk's greatest contribution to the Blues was letting us trade him a few years ago.

Also bare in mind that management viewed him as a 25 goal scorer heading into last season and that in-part helped contribute to management's decision not to bring in additional talent via free agency last season.

Big Walt was a great guy, good hockey player, average Blue, and terrible last year.

I think this team will be a lot better off without Walt than with him.
