$3 million for Frolov is a good deal. And a one year contract too.

Win-win for NY.

I guess Frolov on a one year deal for only 3 mill wasn't the right kind of player for us at this time either..............

And they wonder why they can't even sell out the cheap season tickets.

I hate to jump on the bashin' bandwagon here... but I really feel like Frolov would have fit in here really well. I think we would have seen a resurgence from him.

I guess there is no guarantee he woulda came here, but if a 1 year 3 mil contract is too rich for the Blues blood, this is it. And unless they get lightning in a bottle from Berglund, Boyes, Perron, etc, this will be a loonng season. And the people, like me, who bit the bullet and renewed even after the 60% increase and 33% more forced preseason games (hoping they would reinvest my money in talent upgrade) will bail after this year. They better hope they get real lucky.
They should have seen the negative impact the franchise had when they lowered payroll to attract a buyer (see Pronger, C.). Didn't Checketts badmouth that decision after he took over? History repeats itself again.
And, again, didn't DC have any rumblings from the investors in March? I'd have to think this didn't come from left field in May. So what was JD thinking when he says he went after Kovalchuk at the deadline? Breaking the plan of building from within by trading assets for a rental? Or he thought he could resign? With what? Didn't he read what he turned down from Atlanta? Or did he lie through his teeth to give dumbasses like me a glimmer of hope they will do something to improve the team, just to trick me into swallowing the increase and renewing?

Kings moved fast to replace Frolov to the extent that it's possible:

Ponikarovsky to the Kings, one year deal as well, $3 million as well. $200k signing bonus.

Things are finally moving a little bit now...

Shit. I kind of liked his style of play. We'll miss him more than one might think.

I know the Blues wanted the kids to play, but Weaver is what this team needed. A solid defense man.

Weaver also only signed for 900k for 2 years.

Doesn't seem unreasonable at all. I guess they're going to live or die by the kids after all.

I think it came down to a few things. #1--they have to find a spot for Petro or Cole this year, Weaver was the odd man out. And I think they have too much respect for Weaver to sign him and then send him to the press box every other game. And frankly, he deserves that respect for the way he's played the last few years. #2--if we wouldn't have signed Jackman and Brewer to those equally long and atrocious deals, we may not have a logjam on defense. Weaver would be perfect on this team at his salary, but is victim because the contracts of Brewer and Jackman cannot be moved. Otherwise, Weaver as a PK-machine, straight up defensive-defenseman, and a veteran presence would have been a great fit.

Good thing you mention this - it may be the next title story for LetsGoBlues.com. :letsgoblues:
