GDT: NHL Free Agents vs NHL GM's

Post by deadphish »

Yay! I'm wishing for Kovy. Would pay up to 8.5 mil, NO PROB. Would go as long as needed. Blues go from pretenders to contenders with the addition of Halak and Kovy.

As for RFA's....well I just hope we land Kovy right away, giving our RFA's even more incentive to take a discount.

We could really land KOVY!!!!!! :letsgoblues:

$8.5 mil sounds like a lot, I wouldn't be upset if we signed him for that much, but I don't know if he is worth that much. If we don't sign him, I don't see him signing for more than $8 million, but what do I know?

(Again, I have been golfing and drinking today, not sure whats going on..)

What's going on is the Blues have 2 chances to land 2 out of 3 pieces to a Stanley Cup Champion-chip.

1) Franchise D-man: EJ, Pie?

Check and check 1a. Gotta have the one, but we have another stud in the stables. Never hurts.

2) Franchise goalie: Halak. 'Nuff said. We got him, now it's just a matter of working a deal.

3) Elite scorer: It's got to be Kovy. All signs point to the blues going in an eastern euro/russian direction. Why? Maybe to attract Kovy to a team that has what he likes. Not to mention Payne's offensive speed based game. Yup, we land Kovy (which can be afforded) and this team actually becomes more financially stable I think. The owners have a legit excuse to raise ticket prices to a reasonable degree and the home games could all be barn burners.

Just get it done, ARMY!!!!! We won't have a chance to get this much offense in one player without giving anything up in a loooong time.

Now supposedly according to hockeybuzz, kovy is house hunting in the west coast and toronto areas. While your on remax.com, don't forget to look at who your goalie would be in StL!

How about 7 years, $60 mil with the salary tapering off towards the end a little bit and a NMC?

HEHE....TIHS TREAD IS TEH HAWT!!!!!!

Anyway,

Apparently we're not signing Weaver or Colyolyolyoly. So that leaves even more payroll.

Could we:
1) land Kovy

2) have Brew, Jax and Sydor each paired with a young gun (Johnson, Polak, Pie, Strachan)

3) still remain within our self imposed cap after signing our RFA's?

I'm FINE letting our D "play it out" and yes, even letting Sydor play another year on the cheap (which he wants to do). No need to add really if we get Kovy and Halak. This is just simply a move they need to make. It's not really fast tracking a rebuild, but I think we'd be in the playoff mix annually. That's revenue. That's what ownership needs more than anything. You gotta spend it to make it.

I hate to be the Debbie Downer here, but I've got a hunch that we won't be getting Kovy. There's nothing really to it, I just have been down this road before. We get mentioned in the same sentence as a to FA and nothing happens. I'm predicting a repeat.

For him to stay in the NHL, IMHO, somebody is going to have to offer him the league maximum, which is $12 mill? Hardly anybody can tough that. I don't know that I'd even want him on the Blues for that price. We'll see. My hunch is KHL.

Market value puts Kovy at about $8.5. Thank the Sharks for upping the ante... signing Marleau to that retarded deal means Kovalchuk will be looking to make way more than him.

Can't believe people think we are going to sign him. I just don't see it happening.

Give me Paul Martin and I'd be content.

From what I understand, the KHL may throw big money around, but the paychecks don't always cash out. Kovy will stay here because some stupid GM is willing to throw $10M at him.

Of course that's what he meant, if he was talking Wang he would have said $3049 over 25 years :)

Ladd Next Hawk to Go?
As I reported last night on twitter Andrew Ladd could very well be the next Blackhawk on the move as I'm told as many as a dozen teams have expressed some level of interest.

I hope the Blues don't sign Gonchar. His lazy performance in the playoffs last year was atrocious.
