Re: Simon Gagne
Gagne > Perron
The ONLY knock on Gagne is he is injury prone.
Other than that, he can be a first line player.

Re: Simon Gagne
I gotta disagree with you Curt. Gagne has some miles and injuries on him. Perron has neither and has already shown his skill level and has way more upside than Gagne does, imo.cprice12 wrote:Gagne > Perron

That trade wouldn't help the Blues I don't think.

Re: Simon Gagne
No way I'd get rid of Perron. He deserves at least one more year under a good coach
Re: Simon Gagne
I'm not saying I'd trade Perron for Gagne. I'm just saying if both are 100% healthy, I'd rather have Gagne RIGHT NOW...he's the better player based on what both have done.WaukeeBlues wrote:I gotta disagree with you Curt. Health is a huge concern for Gagne though, so I don't know if I'd want to do that trade.
Gagne doesn't have "some miles on him". He's only 30...granted, Perron is far younger at 22.
The last three seasons Gagne has been healthy, he's put up 47, 41 and 34 goals.
Perron has proven he's a 20 goal scorer in the NHL so far...but yes, he can/should improve.
Gagne has proven he's a 40 goal scorer in the NHL, and he's only 30...so there's no reason why he continue to be a 40 goal scorer if he is healthy.
I'll make a bet with you...
If Gagne plays more than 74 games, he'll score more goals than Perron this season.

Re: Simon Gagne
Tampa gets him for Matt Walker and a 4th rounder. Discuss...

I can't believe people suggested Perron for Gagne straight up.

Re: Simon Gagne
Horrendous. I would've traded someone else if that was the best that was being offered for Gagne.joosforjihad wrote:Tampa gets him for Matt Walker and a 4th rounder. Discuss...
Like I said in the other thread- the guy has a 34 goal season 08-09, has a decent season this year and then pots 9 in 19 games in the playoffs this year with announcers and critics commenting on how great he was looking and his clutch play when it mattered the most. That's worth Walker and a 4th? Not even close.

Re: Simon Gagne
Keep in mind Gagne controlled where he wanted to go to so that pares the lists and offers down even more. For all we know he didn't even want to come to the Western Conference.

Well fine, we didn't want him either [/quote]
He said he only would have waived his NTC to go to Tampa Bay. The Blues had NO chance to get him. Let's hope they can make a similar type of trade with New Jersey, taking advantage of their salary dump to fit Kovy in under the cap, in their new contract, with his hit at $9 million, instead of $6 million. They won't get Elias ($5 million salary). They won't get Zajac (too young for NJ to let him go). But maybe they can get 34 year old (but still GOOD) at $2.8 million-a $2 million budget addition if Winchester is waived, or Janssen or King traded.
