I don't really care how guys come off in an interview. It's not like he beat up a cab driver over ten cents or anything.

Unless you are a criminal off the ice (looking at you Kane)...just kick ass on the ice...that's all I care about.
Agreed....but we were talking about whether or not he is Captain material at this point right now. Not how we value him as a part of the team. IMO that's two different discussions.
yup. See, e.g.: Dallas Drake, Ryan Craig, Chris Clark, etc...

Yup. :okman:
Yeah, Oshie isn't captain material.
A few years down the line, maybe it will be different...but not right now.
It's not a knock on him, he's is a heck of a player and every team in the league would LOVE to have him. He's just way too immature right now for a position of leadership.

I'm in the Captain Backes camp. There isn't really another choice IMO.

I think Amac would be a good choice for leadership until EJ is ready to wear the C a couple of years down the road.

Since I've really scaled back how much time I spend with the team on the ice, in the locker room and out at the bars, I can't really make a good pick for captain.

If they want/need a new captain, I'll let them pick.

Otherwise I choose myself.

Goalies can't actually be captains. It's not allowed.
I don't care what they do in Vancouver. In Vancouver, it's symbolic...Luongo isn't a captain like other team's have captains. Luongo isn't allowed to do what real captains are allowed to do, such as go up to the referees and discuss things at center ice at the scorer's box.

I don't know why the NHL doesn't let him do this, especially on nights where he is resting on the bench.

Oshie in no way said what some here claimed he said.

He was trying to say that he missed playing his college hockey...any kid would (and should) have said the same. Just like when Kerber asked Osh if he was 'ready' for the playoffs after we clinched against Columbus, he said (with the dwindling confidence of most adolescent teenage boys), "Yup." I wasn't buying it, but what was he supposed to say??? No???

I'm sure, given his rock star ways, that he's having a hell of a time in St. Louis.

And Winning Unlimited, Oshie is way too far down your list. His popularity, consistency, and intensity alone qualify him for at least being in the top 50%...not 2nd to last as you impose.

He was way too drunk off his gourd to be TRYING to say anything. A poor decision on his part and a worse one by the toolbox announcers at UND. As for his captaincy material, he has yet to show the maturity the position requires. While his linemate (Toews) wasn't a choir boy in college either, he was a saint compared to one TJ Oshie... That I can promise you.

And don't get me wrong. I love watching the guy play the game. He's one of my favorite players on the ice. But captain? No (frank)ing way

Through a friend... yea he does. Seen the facebook pictures. Luckily nothing bad. Phil McRae too actually

I mean I don't care as long as it's not public knowledge. The guy's the age where that will inevitably happen in the summer. He's not as bad as Patrick Kane I don't think (I hate that little prick) so as long as he keeps his nose clean in public, I don't care.

The problem is that Oshie doesn't carry himself as a professional as much as he should. Not as bad as 20 Cent, but still there. The fact we're even discussing this interview proves that. He also still dresses like he's a sophomore in college. I'm not saying go out in a suit every day, but you have to keep in mind you're a professional athlete now, not a Senior undergrad jock star. With that- you say "no sir I won't do an interview, I've been drinking" and you leave it at that.

And don't punch cab drivers after yelling "don't you know who I am!?"

I think if Brewer goes they give it to Jackman... and when Jackman's gone Backes will get it.

I'm happy that this actually generated some discussion - and I'm excited to see the team this season!! (Enjoy the rest of the time off, only about 7 weeks until pre-season.)
