IF we trade Brewer (afterall, he's gotten SO MUCH SUPPORT on this website!) we'd need to elect a new Captain (or do without all over again)...

So, What If they elect Oshie??

- is this too much pressure for a young guy??

OR

- is this the way to set a new tone for "Leading by Example"??

If Brewer gets traded, cut, bought out, released, stripped of captaincy, I think the leader in the clubhouse for the captain's C is Captain America himself, David Backes. I don't think Oshie is captain material yet. Not sure he ever will be. The top two leaders in the clubhouse for the next captain in my opinion are the aforementioned David Backes and Erik Johnson. But I figure EJ will be a few years down the road.

Oshie is not, repeat NOT captain material. But then neither is Brewer IMHO (not for the same reasons obviously). Don't think EJ is there yet either.

Agree with all of the responses above. Oshie doesn't lead the team in a way a captain does. I just don't see him being the guy that Payne wants to send to the refs when there is an issue. Also, I don't see him giving that big speech in the locker room when down by a goal heading into the third. While he shows grit and determination on the ice, he is lacking material that a captain needs.

Now I have had this thought since last season; Jay McClement distributes a lot of leadership qualities IMO. I don't think he should be captain, but any thoughts on if he is deserving of an alternate spot?

I think Jay really displayed those qualities in the second half two seasons ago and early last year, then he seemed to disappear for long stretches late last season, and I'm not talking just points wise. IMO, you have to have a 'presence' on the ice if your going to lead in the locker room.

BTW.....Oshie is so far down the list of possible Captains that I can't believe we're even discussing this. Besides, JD has already said that Backes is Captain material and will be a Captain one day, so he's obviously next in line.

Whenever Brewer leaves and if Backes is still on the team he will be the next Captain of the Blues.

The "unfortunately" comment was obviously sarcasm/joking.

Interviewer: "We miss you here in ND Oshie."
Oshie: "Yeah, well, unfortunately I am in the NHL now...so..."

Same thing. I wouldn't take that as him saying he'd rather be at ND than in the NHL.

With that said, he came off as a doof in the interview...but to be fair, the guys doing the interview were asking retarded questions.

Agreed....but we were talking about whether or not he is Captain material at this point right now. Not how we value him as a part of the team. IMO that's two different discussions.
