Point Prediction Thread - Take 2

Post by TheoSqua »

Since I did such a terrible job at predicting last year's points here, I figured i'd do it again.

Goals/Assists/Points
T.J. Oshie 30/40/70
Patrik Berglund 30/40/70
Brad Boyes 25/40/65
Andy McDonald 25/35/60
David Perron 25/30/55
David Backes 25/25/50
Alexander Steen 20/30/50
Jay McClement 15/25/40
Brad Winchester 5/15/20
Vladimir Sobotka 5/15/20
Matt D'Agostini 5/10/15
Cam Janssen 0/5/5
Random Other Guys 5/15/20

Eric Brewer 5/15/20
Tyson Strachan 5/5/10
Ian Cole 5/5/10
Barret Jackman 5/15/20
Erik Johnson 15/35/50
Alex Pietrangelo 10/20/30
Roman Polak 5/25/30

Totals: 240 / 445 / 685

Yep Berglund is my breakout homer prediction for the year.

240 goals would have made us the 6th highest scoring team in the league last year.

I only predict in intervals of 5, so if I felt a guy would get 1-2 goals I put 5. I figure Janssen will get at least 1 im-lucky assist, so 5 it is.

Sounds reasonable. I can see ' firing at the net, missing wildly, then hitting Janssen  in the ass, causing a massive end board disruption which distracts the defense long enough for Winchester  to swoop in and accidentally bury the puck in the net.

I disagree with many of these, in particular ' scoring 15 points. ' will be lucky to stick on the team all season. I think Oshie gets too many points, Boyes gets too few. All the D, except Johnson, get too many. Cole won't make the team even though I think he should. Perron is best bet to lead the team in points, if not him than McDonald.

And Halak will net more points than Janssen, both in the goals and the assists category (1 g, 6 a)

I figure we score around 215, a few more for Perron, a lot less form the defense.

I do like your predictions for Steen and Backes, I'm sure there will be plenty around pinning them both in for 30 (which is unrealistic expectations).

Tarasenko flees Russia, and after 81 games of tooling around trying to reach an agreement with his current club, he suits up for the 82nd game and scores 82 goals. Blues lose 83-82 in OT and miss the playoffs by 1 point.

I think Perron is going to have a huge year. This is his breakout year. Kid is going to score 30 goals, get 40 assists.

Yeah he has looked real good in Pre-season...going in front of the net, drawing penalties like always, and making good decisions with the puck.

someone who's actually been able to attend practices and pre-season games, is it looking like any surprises are going to make the team breaking camp?

I think it's a surprise to many that Cole is ahead of Pie.

I haven't seen any of these third/fourth line filler guys distinguish themselves yet.

Drazenovic has caught my eye a couple times, but it's not reflected in the preseason boxscore.

apparently he's caught the teams eye as well....
andystrickland

Blues have placed Scatchard and Porter on waivers, so that's obviously good news for Nicklas Drazenovic

I have serious doubts that Drazenovic will ever see significant NHL ice time, but obviously teh Atomic Dog knows more about him than Skeltor ever did.

As long as he gets more ice time than Cam I will be happy.

Goals/Assists/Points
T.J. Oshie 27/34/61
Patrik Berglund 26/34/60
Brad Boyes 28/35/63
Andy McDonald 23/44/67
David Perron 29/34/63
David Backes 26/27/53
Alexander Steen 23/33/56
Jay McClement 14/27/41
Brad Winchester 4/12/16
Vladimir Sobotka 8/15/23
Matt D'Agostini 13/20/33
Cam Janssen 0/3/3

Eric Brewer 4/16/20
Tyson Strachan 2/6/8
Ian Cole 5/17/22
Barret Jackman 4/14/18
Erik Johnson 12/40/52
Alex Pietrangelo 7/23/30
Roman Polak 4/21/25
Nikita Nikitin 3/14/17

Scoring by committee -262 goals- based on NO injuries for each individual (taking up slack for one major injury (unknown player). So team goal total will be more like 240-245. It will be higher than league average, and enough to get Blues into 5th or 6th place in conference standings.

I am really confused by people here at LGB. All summer, I kept reading about how the team was going to suck and we are going to be close to the league cellar again. Now, I am reading, and not just in this thread, those same people claiming that the Blues are going to be a playoff team. What changed your minds?

I personally am placing us 7-8th. I will admit, going into camp I felt that the Blues would be 9th. But the camp has had a lot more bright spots than I thought it would (Cole, Perron, Steen, etc.) and I changed my mind on it, as I posted on the main page of this site (**plug, plug**). So I am curious as to why everyone else all of a sudden has optimism.

I've been solidly in the 6th place opinion for a month or so now...and I've said that this team is going to be better than most people here think.
When a team that is rebuilding fails to make any free agent moves to improve their team when they have tons of cap room, it's easy for fans to get down on them.

Hell, I'm pissed about it. The Blues could have really made some waves this year if they had signed a Frolov-type player who could possibly put up 30 goals.
I'll be really pissed if they decide to add someone at the deadline again and trade away prospects, players from the roster, draft picks, etc to get the caliber of player they could have had for nothing except cash in the offseason.

Nowadays, if you want to win a cup, sooner or later you MUST sign a big name free agent in his prime. The Blues have NEVER done that and not coincidentally, they have no cups.
I guess maybe the organization deserves some leniency because of the ownership situation and not wanting to sign any big names this year.
But if they fail to add any big name free agents next offseason (with the hopeful departure of Brewer & Jackman) and hopefully coming off of a playoff berth season, I'll throw my hands up and seriously question how much this organization wants to win.
They've drafted pretty well, but they need to fill some holes with a couple key free agents.
