I don't think Thornton intended to hit Perron in the head, it was an accident...but it was still a blindside hit to the head.

I think you have to suspend him for it...otherwise you set a bad precedent.

And I think his boarding call when he hit Oshie was a far dirtier play than the Perron hit. The puck was long gone and Thornton just crushed Oshie face first into the boards.

I was way more pissed at his hit on Oshie. Its like since this "hit to the head" drama started, the NHL broadcasters and disciplinarians have completely forgotten about boarding and checking from behind. Those are still very serious subjects.

It was a dirty play and he deserved the suspension. Then again, if the Blues weren't playing like the best team in hockey right now, there's no way he'd get the suspension.

I'm curious as to why Kovalchuk isn't suspended after last night. He went out of his way to elbow a player in the head and only received a 2-minute minor. Went out of his way in that he had to take a step away from his flow and extend the elbow. Seems some players are immune to game-misconducts and suspensions for blatant elbows to the head.

I think thornton's suspension is as much about the hit to perron as it is a reflection of his overall goonery. It didn't help his cause that he was literally 15 feet out of the penalty box when he had a second penalized hit. He's a physical player, and I respect that about him, but I think there was a way to hit perron without putting his shoulder into the head of a player that didn't see him.

Sadly, pre-lockout, this would have been a highlight reel hit that was celebrated. Stevens made a career out of hits like that one.

Yeah, not sure why he would do that.
It doesn't matter if you didn't mean to hit someone in the head or not...a hit to the head is a hit to the head.

After Perron had to sit out with "concussion-like symtoms", Thornton should feel like a douche for trying to overturn the suspension.

Blind side shoulder hit to Perron's head...Perron is out with concussion-like symtoms. That info alone without even seeing the video is enough for a suspension.

My issue with the hit. If Perron skated into him, why did he throw his elbow forward into Perron's head? Without the elbow being thrown forward, Thornton would have a case.
