Nikitin (N64) will play for Jackman
Camzor in for Winchester
Nick Drazenovic was called up for the Perron injury, but won't play tonight. So it's Ian Cole playing with Perron in the pressbox.

Dressing 7 d-men... two of whom are making their NHL debuts. Whee!

Yes, Thomas got pulled after the 2nd period to "motivate" the Bruins since they were playing very poorly and down 3-0. It worked for 10 minutes since they came back and tied the game. Then the Caps got going again retaking the lead and closing it out with an Ovechkin empty-netter.

We will probably see the backup goalie, because he has barely played this season for the Bruins and is supposedly their "future" #1.

Cole is playing foreward, and Nikitin, Oystrick, Strachan, Brewer, Pietrangelo and Johnson are the defence. great shot by Subotka on the goal.

But, when are The Blues going to start scoring on the 5 on 3? How can a team not score with 1:14 of 2-man advantage? They also have a very poor record with 2 full minutes of 5 on 3. They had some movement on this one, but, still only one decent chance. They need to have more movement towards the net, coordinated with the passing and screen set-up.

It's tougher without Perron. But they were terrible on the 5 on 3, even with him.

I still say (as I've said all along) they need another reliable finisher (who currently is better than Berglund, Perron, Oshie, McDonald, Backes, D'Agostini, Steen and Boyes)).

They're lucky to be leading at this point. I don't think this game will be won 1-0. They'd better score the next goal.

As of tonight, the St. Louis Blues are the best team in the NHL. Unreal.

And TJ Oshie has decided to end the evening by setting fire to Fenway Park in order to finish off the only thing still standing in Boston. Happy Pony nods in approval.

HOORAY!

Great shots for both Oshie and Boyes. Good teams win in a lot of different ways.

If Boyes could only look like that filling the net in regulation!

Oshie and Boyes also won the shootout for the Blues in January 2009. This time, Boyes used Oshie's signature move, and Oshie succeeded doing essentially what Boyes did (forehand-backhand-fivehole).

Good stuff. We have a pretty good hockies team again.

What are you smoking? He repeatedly went headhunting and missed the hits, which allowed the Bruins in to the Blues zone for scoring chances. He was the only Blues player apparently playing outside of the system which focuses on keeping the puck out of the Blues end - not headhunting. He needs to learn from Oshie how to hit. In other words, don't go looking for the big hits at the expense of team defense.

How about Nikitin?

How about Oshie?

How about Coach Payne?

Because of the injuries, and new d-men jitters, I figured this game would be a write off, but Coach Payne will not let that happen. :goblues:

I know it is just one game, but If the Blues can't keep Nikitin because of a numbers/depth & Russian flight risk issue, you have to think he could be a decent trade chip.

I'll echo what others are saying... this team, their style, their transition game, the fundamentally sound goaltending... is a lot of fun to watch.

I can't remember the last goalie we have had who was this fundamentally sound. Halak's positioning and poise is ridiculously good. Joseph wasn't this good...neither was Turek for the short time he was good. Fuhr? No...not quite. Riendeau...uh, no. Millen? Nope. You probably have to go back to the days of Glenn Hall...and that was a little before my time.

I said before the season started that this team was going to be better than a lot of you thought. But I didn't think they were going to be quite this good.

Nikitin and Cole get plugged in and play well...that was a nice surprise yesterday. You gotta like the system Payne has in place. It's refreshing to see a coach play to the strength of his players.

The only complaint I have is about the power play. It's not good. It's not costing us games yet, but it sure would be nice to get it going a bit before we need it to win games. I guess it would also be nice to have scored a few more goals this year so we don't have to win games 1-0, 2-0, 2-1, but of course a better power play could remedy that.
