Re: It's not even funny anymore
Actually, looks like it's not completely true about everybody signing already.
Looks like these guys are still available:
-Brad Richards
-Alexander Semin
-Simon Gagne
-Mike Knuble (38 though)
-Ville Leino
-Jason Arnott (35 though)
There are others, but those are the top 6 forwards according to (excluding the ones on the last already signed): http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multim ... nt.14.html
It's probably a long shot, but I'd love for the Blues to make a play at Semin, assuming he comes back strong from his current injury.
Also, looks like Zach Parise is a RFA after the year. Given NJ's salary issues, I could see him going somewhere else. I think he's hurt right now. But, I'd love to have him if he's healthy.

Richards - Yes please...but I can't see Dallas letting him go.
Semin - Yes please.
Gagne - Pass. He's good, but dude is always hurt.
Knuble - Pass. Too old.
Leino - Haven't seen him play much...but he's having a good year so far this year...might be his break out year.
Arnott - Pass. I don't think he is what this team needs. He can't have many more years left. I wouldn't mind acquiring a player like him for the playoffs at the deadline, but only if we already had a killer offense.

Re: It's not even funny anymore
Agree on all. Anybody over 35 shouldn't be considered. I didn't realize Gagne was hurt a lot though. We don't need that.
Leino could be ~cheap, relatively speaking. But, he played really well in the playoffs and is following it up w/ a good season. I bet the Flyers sign him to a ~4 mil deal before the end of the year if he continues to play well.
I'd prefer Semin over Richards, but either would be awesome. I don't know how realistic either of them are though, one way or the other.

Re: It's not even funny anymore
I disagree about Arnott- the guy can still play. Yea he's 35 but what are you expecting to realistically get? He's on a crap team that wasn't supposed to be crap this year so I'm sure he's just hating his situation. And we need offense. I would not be opposed to trading for him. As always, though, the price would have to be right.
Semin?! Yea right. Keep dreaming guys. Unless it's a complete financial impossibility (and Washington would move other assets before they'd move Semin) he's not going anywhere. He's their Malkin to their Crosby.
Quickly referencing their nhlnumbers.com page as well, it'd be tight but they'd be able to keep the majority of their team together after this season, assuming Hannan is gone, Nylander's buy-out is finished up, etc.
Leino- Philly loves him, he's already a fan favorite from the playoffs last year, and (so far) he's cheap. That's the equivalent of a gold-mine in today's NHL.

I wouldn't be mad if we picked up Arnott. But, I'd rather see somebody they can build around longterm.WaukeeBlues wrote:I disagree about Arnott- the guy can still play. Agree that Semin is a longshot. I included him because he's set to be an UFA as of now. Crazier things have happened though, so you never know. If New Jersey has proven anything, it's that maxing out the salary cap can be very dangerous, so maybe we'll get lucky and Washington will look elsewhere. But, yeah, seems doubtful.
Leino seems like the best balance of benefit and reality of acquiring. If he's happy in Philly, and he has a good year, I doubt he's an UFA come season's end. My guess is that they'll lock him up before April.

Semin is gonna want Kovalchuk money.
We're not going to be able to sign a superstar. It's just not happening. It's going to have to be a B level star.
